During his 2024 Budget Speech on Friday, Browne announced that Cabinet recently agreed, just like last year, to make an ex-gratia payment (perhaps it could be called a bonus) to the current workers of LIAT, of a few hundred thousand dollars so they could have a good Christmas.

The prime minister during the budget presentation said that in 2024, the Antigua and Barbuda government will spend an estimated EC$30 million to “ensure LIAT 2020 Ltd has all the aircraft needed and appropriate maintenance and operational arrangements are in place for the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of service to the people of the region.

  1. The administration is determined to keep our LIAT as a staple for inter-regional travel and connection throughout the Caribbean. My hope is that one day, the people will remember the efforts made by this administration to go it alone on this endeavor. The union has created more controversy which has thwarted progress and the process of severance for the workers, negating the fact that the payment is a compassionate one. The workers all need to rally together and accept the offer in their best interest. As my grandmother used to say, “Want all get none t’all”

    • What the former LIAT workers will NEVER FORGET is this administration’s relentless, open and naked attempts to undercut them and deprive them of their full severance!!! Come election or by Election Day, we shall have our day and get our revenge!!!

  2. A “few hundred thousand “ to share between 600 workers????? What crap is this?! By the time all money divide up not even enough left to offset the wicked ABST increase. Wicked, nasty dutty Gaston.

    • Let’s see how smart you’re. Which is better, monies taken from your pay check each pay period in the form of INCOME TAX, that the UPP wants to rob the working community of. Or pay a couple dollars whenever you go to the hardware store. In the US, when I paid income tax, I get an income tax return at the end of the year. What would you or did you get when the UPP had people paying income tax. Who got the tax monies and where did it go? I would rather keep all my money until it’s my choice to pay tax when I go to the store. I pay tax on every pay check, but get back portion at the end of the year. Income tax in Antigua is worse than paying tax only when you goes to the store. Learn to appreciate what you have.
If you get paid a $1,000 in Antigua during UPP paying income tax, how much would you take home verses now? Plus you still pay tax in the stores. It was the UPP who jacked up the tax to 15%, and now you want cry about 2% increase with no income tax to pay. Give me a break! I’ll like to be in your position!

  4. All workers should be paid 100% of SEVERANCE- the same as the BARBADOS based workers and the workers in ST LUCIA. The GOVERNMENTS OF ANTIGUA,BARBADOS DOMINICA AND ST VINCENTshould have dialogue together to resolve this issue and stop this BLATANT INVASION OF WORKERS RIGHTS.The union’s must stop playing POLITICS and underscore LABOUR LAWS. The CARICOM GOVERNMENTS should step in and have this matter resolved, the same way they did recently for the GUYANA/VENEZUELA BORDER DISPUTE.This issue of the long suffering LIAT workers have been going on way too long

  5. It appears the CURRENT workers have a mouth, stomach, digestive system and could DEFECATE solid.I guess the rest of them have to install solar panel on our stomach the SUN is FREE to satisfy HUNGER and produce air not solid through the BACKEND which would be able to drive a wind turbine producing ELECTRICITY (HUMAN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY). The 4 DESPOTIC SHAREHOLDERS NEED to try the above if it works advise the affected workers.A bunch of low life sewage rats lower than a WET RAZOR BLADE.Try to pick up a wet razor blade on a wet glass that is how low they are.You are there to serve not to be served. The other MAJOR SHAREHOLRDER DESCRIMATING the OECS workers by paying the BARBADOS BASE WORKERS 100% SEVERANCE.VYING FOR the position of SECRETARY GENERAL UNITED NATIONS can’t even unite the 3 CARICOM SHAREHOLDING GOVERNMENTS in LIAT (1974) LTD much less uniting 193 MEMBER STATES OF THE UNITED NATION GENERAL ASSEMBLY. Pay them their SEVERANCE which is due to them by LAW.

  6. The 4 DESPOTIC SHAREHOLDING GOVERNMENTS LEADERS need to humble themselves and be EXALTED.Not with a turkey, chicken or ham you are re inventing the wheel the white slave masters (MASSA) use to do to divide and rule. How can you seek REPARATION WHEN YOU ARE DOING THE SAME to your people. Our service and contribution to LIAT(1974) LTD worth more than Turkey and ham.All we are asking for is our SEVERANCE which is due to us by LAW.(HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE).
