LIAT says courts reduced compensation for former captain

1

The management of LIAT today highlighted sections of an unfair dismissal ruling which went in favour of captain Michael Blackburn.

This case was commenced by the former LIAT pilot following his dismissal from the company in 2011.

But LIAT in a release today the court decided, amongst other matters that Mr. Blackburn significantly contributed to his dismissal and his compensation should be reduced by 65%.

According to LIAT the court also blamed the pilot for not advancing the harmonious and symbiotic relationship between the Union and the Employer by his pronouncements on radio.

Based on LIAT’s  interpretation of the judgement, there is an implied obligation on each employee to serve his employer loyally and not to act contrary to the employer’s interest.

LIAT says it will continue to work with its employees and their Union representative to foster a relationship of mutual trust and confidence to ultimately provide reliable, quality service to all of our loyal passengers.
