Real News:Lewis calls for reopening of Five Islands Clinic and notes that
construction of primary school has not begun

MP Richard Lewis is calling for the satellite clinic in Five Islands to
be reopened.

Apparently, the clinic has been closed for quite some time, forcing
those in need of medical services to trek all the way to the Grays
Farm facility.

The Five Islands clinic has been closed twice by the Antigua Labour
Party Administration, Lewis notes.

And the MP says it is unfair to have sick persons travel that long a
distance for medical care, given that the Five Islands facility was
constructed to avoid such a situation.
Therefore, Lewis says, residents are crying out for use of the
community healthcare facility.
On another matter involving Five Islands, the Rural West MP points
out that construction of the area’s new primary school is yet to
commence.

He observes that, due to the challenges the Government is facing,
deadlines are not being met – but are being adjusted.
As a result, Lewis is not optimistic that the time frame that was set
for the completion of the school will be met.

Further, the representative is expressing concern that the school is
to be built in closer proximity to the Cooks Sanitary Landfill.

  1. Senator Lewis it would be much better to have an ambulance residing at the Gray’s Farm clinic and have the clinic open until midnight rather than opening a clinic in the Five Island community…. The community of Five Island is small and so the operating cost of a clinic being placed there, will incur unnecessary expenses.

  2. Mr. Lewis stop being selfish. Five islands is a very small community and probably don’t need a clinic open full time. There are several other clinics that are closed that serves larger communities that should be reopened immediately. Our hospital is in a mess. Our overall health care has deteriorated so badly, it is a burning shame.
I want you to look at Antigua holistically- you are an aspiring leader with potential.
