LETTER: Who the hell does Gaston Browne think he is?

Who the hell does Gaston Browne think he is?

Dear Editor,

I woke up on V.C Bird Day feeling a surge of pride, just like most Antiguans and Barbudans. Today, we commemorate the admirable legacy of the father of our nation.

Despite one’s political affiliations, it is undeniable that V.C Bird made transformative contributions to our country and paved the way for future generations.

However, my pride quickly turned to shock and horror as I listened to Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s presentation. His speech was nothing short of an insult to the significance and grandeur of this momentous day.

Only a self-absorbed narcissist could relate to Prime Minister Browne’s boastful claims on V.C Day, where he unabashedly proclaimed that no other leader has accomplished more for Antigua and Barbuda than himself.

This level of arrogance and contempt for one of our most revered national heroes, especially on the day dedicated to honoring him, epitomizes the deep-rooted issue that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour party will need to confront before the next general election.

Some diehard supporters of the Prime Minister may attempt to dismiss this as a mere slip of the tongue or a simple oversight, but I direct your attention to the recent bi-election in St. Mary’s South, where we witnessed another display of Browne’s narcissism.

Once again, he asserted that nobody but himself had contributed to the advancement of Antigua and Barbuda.

There is a saying that goes, “self-praise ain’t no praise,” yet in Gaston Browne’s mind, self-praise is the only praise that matters.

The level of disrespect exhibited by Browne on the podium during 2023 V.C Bird Day leads me to wonder if this is a deliberate tactic to belittle and undermine the accomplishments of the father of our nation, as perceived by Browne himself.

With such self-serving comments, it becomes evident that the Labour party is grappling with a colossal problem as we approach the next general election. One cannot help but question, “Who the hell does Gaston Browne think he is?”

  1. 2. HE SETTING THE STAGE FOR A KNIGHTHOOD! WATCH AND SEE THE OTHERS WHOM HE KNIGHTED WILL SURE UP HIS NOMINATION ALONG WITH THE GOVERNOR GENERAL!

  3. The Priminister said that? I have listened/watched the entire VC vird program on ABS tv that was held at the VC bird statue on vc bird day 2023. Can you Inform all of us where we can get such information? maybe you can send an attach link something; when the priminister said what he said on that particular day? We would like listen/watch.

    • So watch it over and see for yourself… you commenting without doing so to see for yourself makes no sense…

  4. The man is a certified narcissist. The day he gets voted out he is going to make Antigua pay. Mark my words.

  5. He is extremely narcissistic and bipolar. What else can we expect? One embarrassment after another. Diehard labourites only whisper behind their hands but mark my words, if he isn’t stopped he will destroy this country.

  6. Gaston Browne in my opinion suffers from psychosomatics. That in itself is a huge problem. The people would have that right given to them next election. To Vote his arse and his kitchen cabinet out of office.Could someone tell me,if that goat jumped over the fence again and got into the garden.

  7. I don’t understand why we Antiguans are complaining, because if Gassssston ‘The Lunatic’ Browne says he’s the best, why would we question whatever he would tell us? 😉

He’s already got his acolytes, Gastonites and looney tunes on board – why not the rest of us?

ALL ABOARD THE ‘RED IS DEAD’ GASTON EXPRESS 🚂 FOLKS … CHOO CHOO …🤣🤣🤣

  8. Lol, it’s ironic how all of you commenting here can only use aliases to attempt to assassinate the PM’s character but none of you will offer yourselves up to run for public office. Isn’t that amazing?

He got elected three consecutive times while you’re all filled with grief and malice.

If he feels that he has done more for Antigua and Barbuda during his tenure, that’s his right. He is measuring it based on what he knows he has accomplished.
What has any of you done but offer bashing lip service?

As far as I’m aware, he will remain Prime Minister for this entire term.

Let’s see which one of you will put yourself up to challenge him politically.

And calling me names won’t change the facts. So go ahead.

    • No need to call you names, you know who you are. It amazes me that deep inside your conscience (if you have one at all) you know that this man has been anything but honorable. I hope you sleep well at nights trying to support THIS as you continue to seek a place around the table. But with whatever accomplishments you have earned in your time does not a speak into your mind to not stoop so low to be accepted. You know your goal so carry on fool, carry on.

    • “… And calling me names won’t change the facts …”

You go Dave, stand your ground and gird your loins … Davey, Davey, Davey!!! 🤜🏽🤛🏽
      😁

    • @ Dave Ray

You mean ‘He stole the elections’ as he clearly stated openly on his radio station that he transferred voters in a number of constituencies to facilitate a win for his colleagues. If that is not BLATANT FRAUD THEN WHAT IS? ABLP is an illegitimate government. Do you and Gaston feel good of cheating the people of Antigua of an election victory.
However, whatever is done in darkness will come to light one day.

“He got elected three consecutive times while you’re all filled with grief and malice.”
I guess you mean AS PRIME MINISTER.
      Career
Following graduation, Browne secured a position with the Swiss American Banking Group, a major banking consortium in Antigua and Barbuda, comprising offshore and onshore banks and a trust company, eventually rising to the position of Commercial Banking Manager.

He entered the political arena in 1999, when he was elected to parliament for the constituency of St. John’s City West. He was appointed Minister of Planning, Trade, Industry, Commerce and Public Service Affairs in his first term as an MP.[citation needed]

    • You feel gd after saying all this? which up to now am sure you yourself cannot even run or mount up to the BS Prime Minister we have who have been enriching him self off of Antigua’s Governance while we as the people are going backwards and he alone going up… now tell me have you in those three terms mount closely to the enriches this man has gotten off our little Antigua? Or you still trying to sort your shit out like the rest of us?

  9. And if the votes came from autochthonous and indigenous Antiguans only, the ABLP wouldn’t be in governance today.
Look at the alleged allegations before the last General Election of redirected casted votes from passport holding diaspora, and also the fast-tracking illegal immigrants, Gaston Browne and the ABLP would be nowhere near power.

Not to worry ourselves though, Antiguans have awaken at last to these shenanigans.

  10. What’s up with the news services in Antigua. Every time someone criticizes the Prime Minister the story is quickly removed. The citizens need to be informed and hear each side of the story, particularly how their country is being sold off under their noses to big developers. Those sorts of lands sales beg the question of how they are being facilitated? Is there under the table compensation going to government officials?

  11. With proper management of money from tourism, and from the money from the port, there should be no new taxes at this time but more reduction.

Instead of pushing new taxes, try pushing for new businesses of national importance that reasonably have access to billions, and other ideas that could provide more income to the country.

It would mean so much for you to try first to get the additional income in ways that does not burden the people. Things are already hard.

Try for 2 years pushing for various kind of international businesses (small to large), encourage more exports of local fruits and vegetables, encourage locals to spend more locally by reducing taxes (encourage more local spending, locals will be buying more overseas and flying out more and keeping income in the banks).

Also instead of taxing locals, sell them Antigua treasury bonds with decent interest rate, making bonds Uncashable for one year or two, with high interest return to fund projects locally and making sure the public confidence in the bonds are high. Which means always having the cash available for those wanting to cash after the one year.

Decrease Jamaicans and Guyanese moving locally in an amount that is above 10% of local Antiguan and Barbudan population. Preserve the culture.

Demand (make the law) that all local hotels order certain percentage of their fruits, vegetables and other locally. Do the same for those touristy restaurants.

Encourage and market mental health tourism, US funds and insurances that is topped up by billions pays for such needed care.

    Decrease politicians salary

I am nor against increase taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, Marijuana, and old cars entering the country.

Any government who has refused to help you open a business of national importance, where service given can be paid from funds that are in the billions of dollars but that government say they cannot help you open such business locally to bring jobs and possibly millions or billions are not a good government for the people. You must try everything before burdening the locals with additional taxes.

They have not tried everything that would not burden locals before going to burden locals.

I have given you a few ideas, now use them.

    • Gassssston nah listen to you @ my way of helping, because you are making too much sense.

BTW, paragraph 7 is brilliant, and reducing politicians salaries is just as good 👍🏾
