LETTER: This bar must be closed

PLEASE ALLOW THE CONCERNS HERE TO BE PUBLISHED IN YOUR PAPER.

The people of Brown’s Avenue are still crying out to the magistrate and court who issued licence to the “13 bar and restaurant” to operate in the village: The court needs to act now and revoke the permission that was granted.

The correct procedures for licensing were not adhered to since the community residents were NEVER involved in the decision to grant license for the bar/restaurant to be opened.

It has been over two years and yet still the authorities have failed to perform their duties as they should.

Over 20 residents of the community have signed a petition for this establishment to be closed and yet still the courts continue to show no concern whatsoever.

Let me reiterate that the residents of the community were NEVER  called upon to give their opinion on having a bar operate less than 25 feet from the closest neighbors.

To date, the lawlessness continues to damage a once quiet and clean environment. The patrons of this establishment continue to dispose of their garbage ( bottles, paper plates, cups, ) on the street and on vacant lands. The Central Board of Health also needs to get involve and investigate the litter situation that this establishment has presented to the community.

We have suffered enough.  The people DEMAND justice.  When will the ordinary people get justice.

This bar must be closed.

The magistrate who issued license for this bar to operate should immediately request the revocation of the license.

This lawlessness must not be allowed to continue.

Once again:   THE PEOPLE AFRE CRYING OUT FOR JUSTICE.

LET THE WORD GO FORTH LOUD AND CLEAR:  WE NEED THIS BAR CLOSED IMMEDIATELY.

WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO ALLOW SOME GREEDY PEOPLE AND RUM THRISTY  VAGABONDS TO DAMAGE OUR COMMUNITY WITH THEIR  LITTER, NOISE POLLUTION AND INDECENT BEHAVIOR.

  1. I know how this author feels. I’ve been down the area several times, and I’ve always been amazed as to the confusion down there when the sun goes down.There are too many bars in the very small area.

    • I read ever so often about these situations in Antigua.

      The regulations on the books stipulate that for any business or even church to be given license to operate in an area; that the residents MUST be involved in the decision making PROCESS. If indeed, the residents in the vicinity of the said bar/restaurant establishment were not involved in the required process then the magistrate should be called in to give account as to how this occurred.

      The proper procedure should then be followed and the residents given that opportunity to participate in the process.
      That is the method in any real democratic society.
      Too often we witness these establishments springing up all over the country and what benefit do they bring to the neighborhoods? None at all!

      Instead, they proliferate noise pollution, litter, gambling, and even violence.
      We need to wake up as a people and call ‘WRONG’ for what it really is.

      The people should not suffer because of the greed and evil of a minority.

      So I am in complete support of the closure of any bar that brings noise, pollution, indecency and violence to a community.
      Ask the owners and patrons of these establishments if they would enjoy being on the other side of the table in such situations.

      TIME FOR RADICAL CHANGE IN THIS COUNTRY.

      RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED.

  3. I can clearly remember recently that Johann Walsh said that it can be achieved by a community petition. Secondly the community can bond together and hire a good lawyer and take the matter to court. Third option is to speak to your parliamentary representative and the DCA and the government. Something can be done about this. It is simply unhealthy. Sleep is so important for good health. Unity is power, community speak with one voice- that powerful!

    Kindly communicate to your readers that members of the said community have refused to sign your bogus petition since the said bar has not caused not major disruptions in their “quiet” neighborhood nor have it been of an issue. Kindly share that the signatures are from one family and one and two close friends. STOP IT!! You are wicked and malicious!!! You have gone as far as threatening the life of the owners and have created traffic jams and made numerous false reports to the authorities which could not be validated on their arrival. The owners and patron continue to be harrassed and have felt unsafe because if you !! STOP. Your malicious attempts screams British Deportee …. be done with the defamatory remarks about trash ON THE ROAD and Empty land when over 4 bins on an erected platform stand to collect garbage few feet off site. Patrons have no need to litter when the establishment has visible bins on site. STOP IT!!! Do right, your concerns are not about a community its PERSONAL ! You can’t get the community to join you with these lies so you chose a platform where people don’t know the full story, do right !! You are a horrible for keep doing this
