Letter to the Editor: Seeking Clarity on UPP Leadership and Internal Rumors
Dear Editor,
Recent discussions on Pointe FM have sparked widespread speculation about the state of the United Progressive Party (UPP).
As a concerned citizen and observer of Antigua and Barbuda’s political landscape, I am writing to seek clarification on several rumors that have emerged regarding the party’s internal dynamics and leadership struggles.
It has been suggested that former UPP leader Harold Lovell is actively working on a political comeback, potentially targeting the All Saints West constituency.
Reports indicate that he has been engaging with key party members to secure support for a return to leadership. Is this true, and if so, how is this move being received within the party?
Additionally, it has been alleged that UPP Chairman D. Gisele Isaac is strongly opposed to any leadership changes.
Her supposed influence within the party is said to have created tension, with claims that she is determined to keep Jamale Pringle in place as Opposition Leader. Is there any truth to these claims?

Further complicating matters, rumors have surfaced about a letter circulating among the party’s executive members, calling for Pringle’s removal as Opposition Leader.
Reports suggest mixed commitments from key figures, including MP Algernon “Serpent” Watts, who is said to have a complicated relationship with Isaac. Can the party confirm or deny the existence of such a letter, and if so, what progress has been made on this matter?
There is also talk of growing factionalism within the UPP, with allegations that some members are backing Lovell’s return while others remain loyal to Isaac.
MP Kelvin Simon is reportedly unwilling to run under a UPP ticket if Pringle remains leader. What is the party’s official stance on these issues, and how does it plan to address the apparent discord?
The UPP has long positioned itself as a viable alternative to the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).
However, if these rumors of internal disunity and leadership struggles are accurate, it raises serious questions about the party’s readiness to mount an effective challenge in future elections.
As someone invested in the political stability and progress of Antigua and Barbuda, I urge the UPP to address these rumors directly and provide clarity to the public. Transparency and unity are critical for any political organization seeking to inspire confidence among voters.
Sincerely,
Not so independent

Harold Lovell? Who cares about that political spent shell?
At the current juncture it is irrelevant which way the UPP turns.
Too much time has been wasted on infighting, sabotage, delusion, walking out of retreats, blocking the mediation process, propping up the Pringle Puppet, planning the removal of Pringle as Opposition Leader, plotting to form a new party, and all the other machinations.
The only question independent minded voters are asking is this: Is the UPP a credible alternative to the sitting government?
The answer of the vast majority is NO. NO, regardless of whatever plot twists may come by the end of this riveting season of The Delusional and the Restless.
You claim to be heavily interested in the political landscape and stability in the UPP however not proud of your affiliation enough to identify yourself. It bothers me the level of hypocrisy that flows within you laboRATS. Why are you so invested and interested in the goings on in the UPP while the labour party is a time bomb waiting to explode. Identify yourself and all the information you so readily request will be available. It is interesting that while you laboRATS believe that the UPP is disintegrating you are still very fearful of the party. Why aren’t you people comfortable and happy that the party as you claim is falling apart. Why are you still so very afraid of a crumbling party? More interestingly why are you SO afraid of Harold Lovell. I am sure that would promt a snap general elections if the ALP has any definite hint of a Lovell comeback. Gaston would eat himself. Chet would be happy because he doesn’t see Gaston as a formidable opponent for Lovell. Chet believes that Lovell would make Gaston look small and believe that he is the only one to lead a challenge against Lovell. To add to labour’s problem there won’t be Molwyn and Robin. So, Not Too Independent concerned citizen take your concerns to the ALP. Let’s see who is the real.leader of tge ALP.
As a voter in this country I am wondering if the UPP doesn’t realize it has lost some support since the convention we need to know what is going on. The silence is deafening. We used to hear on Crusader Radio and Observer that people in the ABLP do not like each other but they seem more united than the UPP I thought the U in UPP stands for united but the Executive doesn’t seem to think so
