LETTER: Parliamentarians — do your work!

Parliamentarians are failing their constituencies in spite of being paid. All elected persons have a responsibility to make sure their constituencies are run efficiently and the government owned entities located within their constituency boundaries are properly managed.

Some of the government buildings all over the island have succumbed to mould and as a consequence, their public servants have been working half-day for over one year, though fully paid.

Where are the Constituency representatives who are paid working salaries? Their role is to harass the responsible Ministries and their appointed Ministers to get the job done.

Elected Representatives, especially those who form the King’s Loyal Opposition in the House, are spending too much time on politics and little time on ‘Government.’ The hands-off attitude of the Executive towards the Opposition members fails to respect the people of the constituency who voted them into government, though alternative.

The Representative is not just responsible for the people of the area under his mandate, but also the environs, the government’s assets and the servants of the persons responsible for upkeep.

This is what Parliamentarians are expected to do as they earn their keep.

  1. Tell Gaston that.

He said that constituencies that did not vote for them will be placed on the back burner and not given any priority, so they you can scream at them for as loud as you like, first go scream to the evil wicked man called GB

  2. This excellent letter to the editor, hit the nail squarely on the head, by highlighting that the voting public has been used (for their votes) and then abused (by broken ABLP manifesto promises).

LETTER OF THE WEEK FOR SURE👍🏾

  3. At this point it’s best England takes back Antigua because Gaston and these politicians are making it worse. Look how much money has been given to Antigua for the development of several projects and infrastructure but yet were still in the same state, Antigua could’ve progressed so long ago but No Gaston and his politicians just putting on a lil show like One Nation and so call fixing roads but yet the roads can never last 2 weeks without getting bad again. That is all a distraction for them to be stuffing all the money in their pockets. It’s sad honestly you can leave antigua for 2 yrs and everything still the same.

You have failed us citizens of Antigua and Barbuda

  4. The Opposition Members of Parliament do not have any Budgets from which to work.In Antigua, those Constiencies that voted for the present Administration would get all the cream. While those who voted for the Opposition get dung.

  5. BRIX. No read again. What the letter writer states is that the UPP MPs are collecting their salaries and doing nothing.
