LETTER: Michael Joseph and Richard Lewis are good men. Gaston is the problem

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the current discourse surrounding Richard Lewis and Michal Joseph, individuals who have been thrust into the spotlight as part of the political landscape in Rural West.

While both may be deserving of scrutiny in their respective roles as caretaker and MP, I believe it is crucial to redirect our attention to the overarching leadership of Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

In recent discussions, the spotlight seems to have veered away from the real crux of the matter—the performance of Prime Minister Gaston Browne during his decade-long tenure. It is essential for voters to focus on Browne’s track record, as he has been at the helm for a significant period.

Regrettably, Browne’s leadership has been marred by a series of challenges that demand our attention.

Despite a decade in office, the water problem persists, and promises of over 28 investments have yet to materialize.

The unfortunate rise in crime rates and the burden of increased taxes on the populace are issues that should be at the forefront of voters’ minds as they approach the ballot box.

While Richard Lewis and Michal Joseph may have their roles and responsibilities, it is the responsibility of the electorate to scrutinize the overarching leadership that sets the tone for the entire nation.

Let us not be swayed by distractions but, instead, focus on the core issues that impact the lives of Antiguans and Barbudans.

In the upcoming elections, let us cast our votes with a critical eye on the performance and promises of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who bears the ultimate responsibility for the state of our nation.

By doing so, we can collectively contribute to the progress and prosperity that our country deserves.

  1. Until UPP gets rid of those pedophiles and predators in their camp, Antiguans won’t take them seriously. Watch them aleniate Richard during the leadership race.

    • @ Dunce DunlopJ, u have the perfect name ….. look in your parties back yard before u try to point fingers

  2. Well said. I admire both men but at the end of the day, I hate when people like Michael Joseph align themselves with leaders who they are afraid to oppose or tell when they are wrong until they leave their party. The political pandscape is so corrupt, I would have focused on my pharmaceutical business and continue to work for community and nation. We can all say what we want to do when we get there, but the reality is, your master would only allow you to do so much and no more. Watch

    • That’s the problem. We want people to tensing in their comfort zone and not challenge the status quo to evoke the change we wish to see. Your advice to Michael Joseph is to focus on his pharmaceutical path because you don’t have the vision for a future Antigua and Barbuda? He got the call, so he answered. The universe usually provides the resources needed to implement its development. We need many more Michael Josephs.

  3. Ascwas c already stated in the article, both Michael Joseph and Hon. Richard Lewis are gentlemen. Michael has chosen to align himself with the party which has strong and decisive leadership. Years odlf experience with a legacy of creating jobs and making Antigua a modern society. The opposition has a leadership struggle and now has a de facto leader who is being coached by others who have never been elected or have lost.

Say what you want about the PM and his style, (to all of which I don’t subscribe), you must admit that he can spot talent from a mile away.
He is definitely a strong and defiant leader.

The problem is that in recent cases, hard work has beaten talent, as the talent refused to work hard. So their political demise is tantamount to their performance in their respective constituencies. (Except for Samantha who had many inevitabilities going against her.)

He, the PM creates the pathway for others to show capacity.
I believe in my heart that Michael will become the leader one day, if he can show his worth and value over the next election cycle.
I’m betting on Michael Joseph, next election for SJRW.

  4. When will the UPP be holding their convention….it time to select the leader of the party….and I hope Richard is on the card…
Richard Lewis and Michael Joseph let initiate some debates between you two…so the voters of the Grays Green community can made informed choices instead of falling for the Rambling party gossips and propaganda.
Maybe others like Pringle and Serpent and Shugy will challenge their opponents in debates.
Call out the ABLP…LET the nation see the true worth or the true valve of the UPP.
No more promises in the sky…real talk..live debates.

  5. Absolutely correct @ Constituent, not much more to add, but to say that once Gaston is gone Antigua & Barbuda will flourish, and will rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

Just hoping that his unprincipled ways doesn’t harm the up and coming young politicians from either parties, because if it does, it doesn’t bode well for the future.

Can you imagine a younger version of the Attorney General, or worse a “mini” type version of Gaston Browne?

    PERISH THE THOUGHT … ARGHHHH!
