Dear Editor,
Over the last few months, there have been cases where workers have been seriously injured or killed on the job.
The government recently decriminalised use of marijuana.
However, it has been documented that use of cannabis impairs judgement.
In the United States, there has been documented evidence of workplace accidents due to use of cannabis among workers.
I have attached articles below.
I know it would be an uphill battle to try to changes the laws.
However, I think it is prudent (and potentially lifesaving) for workplaces to impose drug tests, especially for jobs where slight impairments in judgement can carry severe consequences.
Also, we’re seeing the deleterious effects marijuana is having on our youth.
How can we curb this?
If youth know that cannabis use will reduce their chances of getting a job, that may be the only was to curb their use of it.
Sincerely.

im just here for when the lot of nounce start defending
So what’s the solution here? Criminalized Marijuana? That still nah tap people from smoking and alcohol also impairs judgments. So your saying Marijuana was the cause of the latest accident in the work place?
When it come to that they need to ban drinking on a whole cause it’s legal and everyone knows the effects its no doubt about it I’m neutral on this cause it’s the same thing ppl can handle liquor and others can’t but it should be prohibited during work hours if that’s the case. Cause u can’t say u won’t hire people when crime already rising???
Four grams and three trees!
Or whatever the government gave the people for votes is coming back to haunt all of us now!!
There’s more to come if changes are not forthcoming☹️
Well let me say this you can’t ban one and not the other, or test for one and not test for the other. This was found in an article on American Addiction Centers Risk of Alcohol Overdose
“In most cases, drinking alcohol is not life-threatening. However, when people consume too much alcohol, it can be fatal. The CDC reports that nearly 88,000 alcohol-related overdose deaths occur each year. Binge drinking accounted for about half of these deaths.
In comparison, the number of deaths caused by marijuana is almost zero. A study found that a fatal dose of TCH, the potent chemical in marijuana, would be between 15 and 70 grams. To give you an idea of how much marijuana that is, consider that a typical joint contains about half a gram of marijuana. That means that you would have to smoke between 238 and 1,113 joints in a day to overdose on marijuana. That’s a lot of joints.”
Where is the evidence to show that the cases of injury in Antigua in recent months/ years are related to Cannabis use.
Funny that you did not conclude that the increase in traffic accidents is due to alcohol.
But I guess that you can’t get much political mileage with that one.
