Dear Editor,
Is the UPP still a political party?
Or is it an organization of well-organized women who are good at putting together social events and activities?PS: I don’t agree with Knight that the pig tail is hard. These women can cook well.
I ask this because I sat last night and watched the program that the chairman and her group of women organized. It was a well done occasion and I enjoyed it a lot.
However I remember years ago when my wife used to take me to a program just like this one, organized by almost the same women.
It makes me wonder, wouldn’t it be better if UPP admit that they no longer are in the politics business and just call themselves an event management company? Because nothing is coming out of the party much to do with politics.
Are the men in the party comfortable with that? Have they too thrown in the towel and have left anything to do with politics up to the women in the party?
It is sad to see what is happening. The leader is here then not here, and he has nothing to say about the state of affairs in Antigua unless he gets his talking points. Lewis seems not to want to challenge them because he is afraid they would tear him down. Not sure if Lovell is back or not back.

The weak, egotistical jerks are at it again I see. “We need more women in politics” they say, but in the same breath will undermine any attempt by women to act for the greater good.

When you question, you’re challenged. They obviously have wool over their eyes if they cannot see what is rather apparent to the public. You don’t have to be ABLP supporter, as I am, to recognize the inadequacies of the operation.
There are noticeably factions and cliques in the party between the elected members amongst themselves and the membership as a whole.
It’s either that the newly elected members are unaware of the process of collaboration or they are just apathetic to the process as long as they receive their remuneration.
I’m not at all impressed with the goings-on as it sets a poor and compromised benchmark for the ones who are desirous of entering the political landscape representing the opposition.
Though I’m forever sympathetic to the Labour Party. I still believe that a strong and healthy opposition is crucial as it should be always ready to serve if the electorate chooses to make them relevant to lead our country. Stop cussing and start creating strategies to lead.
Wonderman, I keep wondering myself, it’s as if they have become dormant, the radio programs on Observer and Crusader are sub par more designed for jokes than anything uplifting, used to be a fan of the Snake Pit on Saturdays now I hardly listen. Will never vote ABLP too damn corrupt done with that long time, but UPP got to be more creative

You, writer, seem to be aware of the issues we are presently facing but you have the time to be anonymous and at the same time, delegating persons to speak for you. What if the UPP ceases to be a political party; will you start a movement to challenge ‘the state of affairs in Antigua?’

UPP has never and will never be a political party. What it is is a group whose only commonality is hatred for the ALP. None of them, can speak to any difference in ideology from the ALP. At one time their manifesto spoke to the Bird’s being unimportant historically, next thing they running a Bird on their ticket and another as one as their partners. You then hear their spokes person lauding VC Bird snr. Suggy is the epitome of UPP, found of sound and fury but signify nothing (naught in a figure place). If you speak to the members who have left UPP, most will tell you how free they now feel after letting go of the bitterness UPP requires.

This piece of awfully written garbage is further proof that there’s some sort of co-ordinated political movement by the ABLP hoi polloi to destroy the main opposition (as many concerned Antiguans have mentioned time and time again in the past).
Gaston Browne recently admitted that he was almost removed from office by the UPP at the last General Election by a handful of votes.
And since their miraculous win, Gaston Browne and his enablers (like wonder woman) have been on a crusade to destroy, discredit and divide the UPP.
This ulterior motive by the ABLP is all about moving Antigua & Barbuda on to a one party state, that will only create dire repercussions in the future.

UPP continues to degrade itself as a viable political party by not replacing MP Pringle as it’s leader; which has been the basis of many internal fights.
Thought ackward the writers question is fair, even thought an entertainnent performance should not be the reason for raising the question publicly.
The frustrations that has led to many public departures from the party is the construction of the Party leadership.
The ALP was riding high when they were taken down by the UPP. The difference today is social media. He or she who wins the social media game is a political winner. Both Obama and the Republicans has proven that fact.
UPP is financially broke, and has no communicator to capture the imagination of the Antigua and Barbuda people; especially it’s youth who have grown up and adopted a culture of “Swaggy and Braggy”.
ABLP offers more towards the “Swaggy and Braggy” aspirations
Most important among UPP internal problems are led by a few phonies who continues to have an outsize influence.
They are propping up Pringle on the basis he is the duly elected leader.
If Pringle becomes Prime Minister which is an unlikely event, these individuals being unelected persons will have their choice assignments.
As this small group hold the UPP leadership random for their own I dividual selfish reasons; the one perty system may become a reality in the bear future.

The parlia.e t recognizes an opposition leader.

Peter Redds would be making inroads in St Peters.
Look at St Johns Rural South.
They chose a Pringle loyalists who does have a tongue.

As a result Daryll Matthew is the surest of ALP candidates in the next elections.
St Marys North lost by 46 votes.
Ask Trevor Walker or Arthur Nibbs the significance of one vote.
Next elections Jonathan Joseph will lose by 300 plus votes.
All that is because UPP wants loyalists to Pringle.
I love the optism of Geriatric Alister Thomas.
He knows that he will not win his deposit.

Ashworth Azille has been sent to Rural East to be a sacrificial lamb.
