Dear Editor,
Speculation is rife that former United Progressive Party candidate Dr. Philmore Benjamin is poised to replace long-serving MP Sir Molwyn Joseph as the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for St. Mary’s North.
Is it true that Sir Molwyn may be ready to call it quits, with an announcement expected within days?
While names like Winston Williams and others have been put forward, the prevailing view within the ABLP camp is that Dr. Benjamin—who joined the party last year during the mass exodus from the UPP—is the heir apparent to the ABLP ticket.
Whether that is true or not, what is clear is that a general election in Antigua and Barbuda is imminent, with some suggesting it could come as early as April.
Ahead of this possible change, do you think Dr. Benjamin is a good choice? After all, Sir Molwyn has served well and appears to have at least one more term left in him. However, Dr. Benjamin’s candidacy may be a strategic move.
Very soon.

Whoever it is it will still be someone who was with the opposition that’s where Lsbour get their strength, what is funny is that the Opposition do not know how to use what they have, they excel in cannibalizing each other to their own detrimental
QUESTION TO ALL.IS POLITICS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO YOUR COMMUNITY OR COUNTRY?
My word, is the world round? Of course [sic] Molwyn Joseph has to be replaced. It’s long overdue after he allowed the banned mRNA AstraZeneca vaccine to continue to be used on the majority of unsuspecting Antiguans.
Major European countries banned its use; the US wouldn’t go anywhere near it, and the makers and manufacturers eventually banned it as well.
Whenever there was a shipment into Antigua of this highly dangerous Covid-19 so-called vaccine, guess who was there for a photo opp?
Yep, that’s right Molwyn ‘AstraZeneca’ Joseph.
He was NEVER fit for such a high profile positions – Gaston save he a#se…
And we must never forget that all the above eventually culminated in a peaceful protest that turned very nasty with women and children being targeted with tear gas to the government’s shame and that the world witnessed.
This smells like Gaston Browne who planted this to make his love. If you want my MP out to put your doctor then do it. Tapped plant letter Ina di media Gaston
What has attracted these flip-floppers to this Cult called the Antigua Labour Party? Is it the get rich scheme? Without a doubt, that’s what it is. I visited this Doctor’s Office on two occasions and it was Government politics before why I was actually there. I always knew that the party was a terror towards Antigua/Barbuda but hearing it from a well-studied College Graduate, I was suddenly confident that I was right all along. What has changed after those years, so what will he be telling the constituents? From all we know, the organization has stepped up its activities and has morphed into a full fledged Cartel. Just about a decade ago, it was estimated that Medical Doctors earned an average of $8000 daily so what makes these Professionals abandoned their practices after committing themselves to years of studies, and absence from their families? One thing is certain; they are sure to be protected after every episode of malfeasance and are being propelled to the forefront while the original diehard supporters are left to feel disenfranchised.
REALLY! YOU COULDNT GO INTO THIS DOCTOR’S OFFICE FOR 30 MINUTES AND HE NO USE 25 MINUTES OUT OF THAT TO TELL YOU HOW WICKED GASTON AND THE ABLP IS. HE WAS ALSO ENCOURAGING PEOPLE NOT TO TAKE ANY VACCINES. GASTON EVEN SAID HE WAS GIVING PEOPLE ILLEGAL SICK LEAF. ALMOST ALL THEM ACLM FORMER MEMBERS GET BUY OUT BY GASTON. POWER AND MONEY LET PEOPLE FORGET MORALITY AND INTEGRITY. WAIT,ALL THEM LABORITES NO HAB NONE SHAME? GASTON SAY UPP ATTRACT ALL BOTTOM OF THE BARREL ,BUT AS SOON AS THEM FLIP OVER ,THEM GET ALL KIND A POSITION IN ABLP. THAT MEAN THE EXISTING LABOR SUPPORTERS ,THEM WORST THAN WHA UPP ATTRACT. LOL
@Rovi what has changed is the terrorists within the UPP such as Gisele, Pringle, Wehner and others. Once you were a supporter of Richard Lewis, after the Convention there were no efforts to mend fences. You were despised and hated. That was the downfall of the UPP. They must learn to embrace differences and work together. They lacked that ability hence the situation they are in now.
He is not known to be a person who sets the place on fire with his activism.
He is lazy sob, and he feels he is entitled.
UPP treated him with kid gloves and allowed him to do what he like. He took a position on the executive and did not do not a lick ah wuk. He wanted a constituency but other people must do the work.
I hope he gets the position because he will not be of any use.
@ Rovi
I was once a patient of a doctor who had his office on Market Street and he said to me he made more money from his practice monthly than what he was getting from government for the same period, yet these doctors are giving up their practice for politics. Make that make sense
… And furthermore, look how ABLP are getting stronger with articulate former UPP members, is it any surprise that ABLP’S underhand recruitment and incentives, that they are strengthening on a much more regular basis (apart from Anthony ‘Me Soon Gone’ Smith) and that the opposition is now struggling?
Not really rocket science to those of us who can see through the movement for an autocratic state…
Wel the whole place shell down
Our sickleave dr is the chosen one
So now cabinet can soon be full of doctors instead of lawyers and healthcare can now stand a chance
Wharf rats looking food. Money is like poison to the brain. Why does ABLP love former UPP Candidates? The single and simple answer, they have no patience and could care less about due diligence or accountability, which shows their true intentions were all about money and not serving all within the community.
@Born & Bread Antiguan, it’s all about absolute power. Mr Benjamin, as a Doctor may be better off financially, but to be in control of the entire Ministry of Health is as powerful as it gets, since he now becomes the boss of all Doctors.
There is a big difference between Diehard supporters of a party, which the ABLP have, and just hooking up with a party for political further gains, UPP. The jump continues but these jumps have been one sided for ages.
@ Carvaa,
While everyone complaining about this event; you seem to be the only one who understands, power access, leverage and privilege are vastly more important than money.
With those attributes, the money will come eventually. Especially in a country where corruption runs wild, with no regard or accountability.
Dr. Benjamin is the right choice for St.Mary’s North constituency, Sir. Molwyn Joseph should have left 30 years ago, Dr. Benjamin is from St.Marys North constituency he attended Jennings Secondary school and always in Touch with his PEOPLE, he attends activities in our constituency, he had Lectures on Sport injuries for our cricket 🏏 and football ⚽️ members also he attends many major events in the constituency. I wish him all the Best in St. Mary’s North Constituency. 🙏🙏🙏 🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬
We keep saying prep the youth to take.over and we keep putting pensioners in position and those with the old time days mentality. Wait no younger person has the drive for the position and will to bring a fresh mind to this thing?
This seem like replacing Molwyn with this Dr that tell you circle the block and get u sick leave and prescription is just to keep Michael Joseph from being minister of health after he has been pouring his all in this.
The hypocrites who support the ALP cabol, will be saying that it is a great and wonderful choice. However, if this same judas was selected to be the UPP candidate, the same people would be saying UPP was scraping the barrel.
Just when I thought that we were replacing the old mavericks with younger blood, this. We replace Sir Robin and Sir Molwyn, two Senior Citizens and hoping to replace with another such one. Come on! Encouraging young people into elective politics and allowing them to participate is crucial for a healthier democracy and ensures diverse, future-focused representation. Young people often feel alienated with these older traditional structures who do not want to make way for them.
