Dear Editor,
Sometimes, some managers & others who are in an authoritative position, allow their heads to become inflated with power, and so, the divine component of humility & empathy tends to be swept out of the window thus causing their subordinates to get treated with disdain.
As a manager myself & at the same time a strong believer in Christ, I have made pledge to speak out against any form of injustice especially on my job site whenever I see it fitting to do so.
Throughout my career as a manager, I must confess, that I have seen several injustices meted out to some employees, due to some unethical & unscrupulous practices among my peers, in the way how they go about hiring & promoting persons up the corporate ladder…..
Such practices have forced me to ask the question… is the ” knee in the neck ” syndrome prevalent in the workplace of today?
Of course, sometime ago, we all heard about Mr. George Floyd, an Afro-american male, who was on his way pursuing his own ambition, met his untimely death by having a knee placed in his neck from someone who was considered to be in authority. Instantly, Mr. Floyd’s life was cut short.
Interestingly, it is my view, that the same “knee in the neck” syndrome exists in many of our work places of today.. Similar to Mr. Floyd, many employees in various establishments, have experienced the knee in neck syndrome, causing their ambition of climbing the corporate ladder to cut short.
Be it as it may, it is very unfortunate that some persons become a victim of discrimination or nepotism and hence, they are overlooked or get pushed to the back of the bus or even have the corporate ladder pulled from under them, inspite of the hard work & dedication they put into the organization.
Regardless of whoever the employee is, the play field should be level for all.
Each employee should be looked at in a impartial manner & should be treated equal and be given utmost respect from those in authority. What goes for Peter … should also go for Paul.
I will agree that as managers, many of us may have a different style of managing, however, we should not allow our position & arrogance to supercede professionalism, fairness, empathy and transparency whenever we are making decisions to impact upon our employee’s future.
It is extremely unscrupulous & dangerous to allow nepotism & cronyism to fester as a disease in the workplace. Many times, I have seen square pegs been placed into round holes which translate into persons not having the proper work ethics or decorum, along with not being qualified for the job.
Such epidemic creates stagnation & low staff moral and hence impacts negatively on the production of work thus inhibiting the organization from going forward.
NEPOTISM IS WRONG. MAY THE GOOD LORD HAVE MERCY ON THOSE WHO ENDORSES IT!

The author of this article hit the nail direct on the head……. Where I work it is very prevalent…. Persons are liked and been rewarded with a promotion because they wine & dine and laugh & talk with those in authority… Advantage will never done…..!!
@ Bluddy Bloke: In some establishment the ad for a vacant position is used as a form of formality just to avoid the union from getting involved.
The vacant position is already assigned to a particular person even before the ad has been made public…..
Tom drunk but a no fool… The title of the vacant position speaks volume. The position is sometimes created for the intended person to get.
you speak fact because some managers never have good to say yet every day they speak about the workers an sometimes discriminate them
not everyone has good shape so some the uniform won’t fit neatly an am sure wen they employing them they see that they look like a turnip an still give them the job an the way I see how some managers speak to those persons tears come to my eye its just not right.sometimes also if someone made a complain about u they fire u without hearing ur side of the story,
an those who are good employees wen they see that practice it just make u wanna say why should I work harder wen nobody cares about us
ve seen lots of verbal abuse from manager not the main manager but person who he emol9y as mangers over staff an every morning afternoon its verbal abuse
an manger using the phrase shit an dam. That’s not how manager speak to person I find it insulting
good company out there but the verbal abuse ain’t nobody want to work under that bad management cause good employees to flee
And the bad thing about this letter is that it exists in almost ALL ORGANISATIONS in this place. Local, regional and even worldwide we hear of these attributes being displayed in companies. Yet, when these managers leave and their replacements shine brightly, they are STILL subjected to a plantocracy mentality.
Nepotism will always fester in the work place because we do not stand up for each other…..
It is only when the pig get hit by the stone, then the squeal from the pig is heard. We all have a mentality that since the situation does not affect me or my bonifide friend, then I have nothing to say or do. Let it reach in front of your door step then there will be a big difference…. Troy’s case at SLBMC is a very good example!!!
Lots of bad management and managers in this place. Rude, disrespectful, hateful, badmind, every business organization owners, should send in under cover workers to gather intell on these managers. Every Government ministry should also send in under cover workers to gather intell on the management teams only then will Government and business owners will see the devious snakes they have managing their business.

It’s about time nepotism in the workplace was highlighted. Long overdue.
Back in the day, as a Branch Manager working abroad for a large corporation, I had to clean up a branch that wasn’t functioning at all.
It took me 3-4 months to sort out the mess, which involved poor recording of documentation, no “self audits” to pick-up any current problems (I.e, invoices, and implementing staff training methods and appraisals, so they knew what to do, and where to improve their performances); and also the finances were in a right mess.
AND GUESS WHY IT HAPPENED?
Yep, the person in charge of all the mess and chaos, was put there by his father who had a very senior position within the company.
This is why I continually highlight the ongoing issues with employing anyone through nepotism.
Nepotism in the CHURCH is another bugbear of mine, but that’s another story …
How about telling people about Guion S. Bluford Jr, first African American to go to space? George Floyd was a drug addict and a convicted criminal (armed robbery etc.). He died with a lethal dose of fentanyl in his blood. The BLM mercenaries (funded by George Soros, a white billionaire) weaponized racial sentiment to create confusion and destruction in mostly black neighbourhoods and chaos (conveniently) around election time. Can we find a better representation of black people’s hard work and struggle?
