I hope this letter finds you well, or at least not too parched. I’ve recently noticed a surprising phenomenon in Antigua and Barbuda that I just can’t ignore—women walking around with water flasks so large they could double as a small fishbowl! I’m beginning to think it’s less about hydration and more of a new Olympic sport: competitive mug-carrying.
Everywhere I go, I’m greeted by the sight of these women, proudly clutching their oversized insulated flasks or bottles, like they’re carrying precious relics of ancient hydration gods. I mean, when did this become the new handbag? I saw one lady the other day who looked like she was preparing for a marathon, clutching her adorable jug of what might as well have been a double espresso smoothie.
Is there a whispered secret mantra of “The bigger the flask, the better the hydration” that I missed out on? It’s as if we’re living in a reality show where the challenge is to carry around the most absurdly large drink container. “This week on ‘Mug Life,’ we’ll see who can finish their Goliath drink before it grows a family of its own!
I’m actually starting to think it’s a ploy to distract us from the rising food prices. “Ignore the poor economy, just focus on how fabulous this 64-ounce mug makes me look! Hydration is the new black!”
So here’s my proposal: let’s declare a national “Bring Your Mug to Work” day. Why not? Wear your hydration trophy proudly! Who knows? Maybe it’ll be the key to world peace—or at least keep us all well-hydrated while we figure it out.

Why you dont mind your funky business?
Everything is a issue is antigua? You can’t even drink water or carry a bottle in peace. Y’all just need to mind y’all damn business and study the real issues and maybe we would progress a lil bit more in this country.
Easter is typically slow for news unless there is a tragic accident. This here though is a tragic letter. How do you attempt to stigmatize something meant to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Reading this makes me feel like you’re spreading hate to us females with Stanleys walking around. It’s not a competition. A cup was made for us to carry our water more comfortable. Just like the guys will have their “likkle man” in the back pocket. Atleast we are sure to not die of dehydration or end up having to walk around with a big 1.5L bottle struggling up the streets of St. John’s. I hope you’re drinking water as much as you spreading hate.
They need to understand that females often has more luggage than men and we don’t like shame. By the time we have our hand bag over our shoulder. A 1.5L bottle is too much for us to me walking around with. They feeling of a cold bottle in your hand just sliding down every two minutes is too much to think of. We walk proudly with our oversized bottles and we will continue.
tisk, task, tucks. I watch many females walk around the country with Stanley, some the stanley cousins and its rather sickening. I mean, this big cup in your hand for what reason? I’m sure half the time there’s little to no water in it or it could even be juice. Almost like if it’s a fashion show for real. some designed and some not. “lets see who has the best looking stanley”, “Fu she stanley fake, ya see the name not on it”. i mean, like weren’t the both made in china anyway? what become of regular water bottles?

The girl in the picture brought me here. beautiful resident with her stanley. Can we let these females live? I bought my sister a stanley for her birthday and yes she walks around with it and thats just awesome. At least these females are drinking more water than us males. Maybe if they don’t have the stanley they will faster by a soda when thirsty and then we will talk about how their skin have pox? sure this was written by a man. all they do is judge these females on their every move.
Dear Editor, I understand you welcome views from all points of view, however, I do not see how someone’s personal choice of water bottle is elevated to a national issue.
Hydration is of great importance. And it’s important that you drink water because our bodies are made up of 70% water. It is important that you drink water because our minds function at their peak when we are properly hydrated. And when you drop below a certain level, your brain does not function properly. You can’t remember as well as you should be able to. You cannot make decisions as well as you should be able to. So yeah, I wish everyone was drinking at least 2.5 litres of water daily.
But the thing is a lot of people who have these mugs are not actually drinking all of this water in a day. Now before it used to be that drinking 8 glasses of water was enough. But today we live in societies where A/C is everywhere. It’s important to know that A/C removes moisture from the air. People who travel can tell you that living in a place where there’s more humidity where you’re living closer to the water you are here your body your skin thrives better. So when you work and exist in the space where moisture is continuously being removed from the atmosphere it impacts your body. Therefore if you live outside and you need 8 oz of water then staying inside for 8 hours is going to require you to drink more water. It’s also hotter right now and because when it’s hot you need more water because you’re either sweating it out or your body needs to be better able to regulate your temperature, you also need to drink more water. And for the people who enjoy drinking a lot of coffee, they also need to drink more water. And coffee drinking has become more common in Antigua with people drinking two three cups of coffee within an 8-hour span. Meaning all around we need to be drinking more water.
In other words I wish there was hydration hysteria because on a regular basis you will notice that people aren’t actually as hydration as they need to be. The largest stunning mug is 64 Oz which actually translate to eight glasses of water and as I’ve just explained that is not enough especially if you’re also active.
But we’re in Antigua and people like looking as thought they are part of the trend. And so there are a bunch of businesses which have and continue to profit from us wanting to look cool and instead of drinking the water you just walk around with it looking cool as you kill yourself and pay to do it. Here’s hoping the arm workout is worth it though.
lol. Didn’t know a little water bottle could get people so caught up in a frenzy. So the Pope died ,and instead we mourning, we are here yapping about water? Shame Shame Shame on Antiguans. Now that I have said this, ladies…drop the pathetic look already. haha. I have seen it myself. Bottles bigger than your head.
They carry these things as accessories and go home with it full at the end of the day.

Whose business is it? Allow us females we are saving the.earth. when you done drinking the water we throw away the bottles any where which is unhealthy. We won’t throw away the cup we will continue to reuse it. Also the cup keeps your drink clod for a very long time. I am enjoying mines.

I use to judge like you until I took one sip from a Stanley and it was cold for hours! I proudly walk around with my Stanley now! Praise to the flask gods!!!

everyone’s out here in Antigua walking around with these giant water flasks like it’s the latest fashion trend. And I’m not mad they’re cute and all but half the time people aren’t even drinking the water. They’re just holding it like it’s a trophy.
Can we realise we are in a more modern time? even the sun has upgrarded to the modern era. back then it was all “8 glasses of water a day is enough.” Not anymore. We’re in AC 24/7 now, from home, to the car, to the store, to work. Ac is everywhere. now AC dries the air, which means it’s drying you out too. If you’re sitting in class or at work with the AC blasting, your body needs more water. Plus, it’s hot outside. Like sweat through your shirt hot. So we need even more water just to stay normal. What is wrong with these mugs? or what a female choose to walk around with?

Well I guess this person don’t drink water or tea. all they drink is soda and rum. that’s why they think is an issue. in these time people are drinking more water than before, time is getting hot and people are falling down, so everyone you see with a cup is trying to be stay hydrated and healthy. so what’s your point you need to get your self a big cup and drink more water and mine your business.
I hope those individuals who doing things because of fad realize some of those containers have cancerous chemicals sprayed to line the inside and you have to purchase certain ones that don’t have toxins linings that cause medical issues, especially the cheap ones you want to buy from the Chinese and Syrians. As schools demanding bigger and bigger bottles for the children and children abandon them soon after ,cause they are too heavy and huge .
