Hon Michael Joseph may be the nation’s next prime minister, giving rise to another historic moment for St. John’s Rural West
Dear Editor,
Shortly after the swearing in ceremony for the gov’t ministers, PM Gaston Browne made an announcement that succession planning has to be done as of now, in order to prepare some individuals for leadership of the ABLP party for the near future.

Although, it was not a startling revelation, in my view, as leader for the ABLP, I believe that PM Gaston Browne has with God’s blessings of health and strength, another 10 more years to be at the apex of the party.
Be that as it may, a question is now asked who will be Gaston Browne’s successor?
Presently, ABLP has some young bright Turks in their camp. If these youngsters are trained as of now to take over leadership of the party, whenever the PM vacates his seat then I will certainly bet my last dollar that Hon Michael Joseph will be the candidate to be the nation’s next prime minister.
Michael Browne becoming the next prime minister will definitely be another historic moment for St. John’s Rural West. It will be a constituency that has produced three prime ministers.
Presently, Michael’s appointment as the Health minister, which is one of the highest offices in the government, was not done by just waiving a magic wand. It was definitely done by proper assessment. The Hon Michael Joseph has what it takes.
His charisma and intellect will no doubt propel him into the seat of the next PM of Antigua & Barbuda.
Unfortunately, Richard Lewis another individual from the St. John’s Rural West and who also has prime minister qualities, will miss out to that elevation of being the prime minister, because he has found himself to be in the wrong party.
Alex

UP TOP!
There was an error in calling him Michael Browne in the body of the article, but I agree.
Big MJ….. !! It is sure in the making
He is going to be in see it coming
Let’s hope he can stand up to the pressures of the job of a politician. It is not for the faint of heart. It is no longer just handing out food to the needy on a Saturday. We shall see what he is truly made of in due course.
@ Period……. Thanks for the correction!
It was meant to be Michael Joseph and not Michael Browne.
Thanks once again!!!
Many thanks @Alex, I recently compiled a list of the runners and riders to replace Prime Minister Browne, and I mentioned that I didn’t know much about Michael Joseph.
I do now thanks to you.
I’ll have to change my odds on him becoming the new leader. I had him at 250/1. I’ll have move him u to 70 or 80/1 now.
REPLACING GASTON IS A MUST…

@Brixtonian:
I am extremely elated that you have found some confidence in me to be able to enlighten you as to who Michael Joseph is, since you are considered as a hard task master towards ABLP…
I am sure that as time goes by, Michael’s track record in his new position will be enough to convince you so that we will both begin to sing from the same hymn sheet
People just get excited and wish for stuff without thinking. Michael Joseph is untested. He has just been elected. Let us see his performance first before making grandiose predictions. He seems to have the talent and the drive but to me in just a few days his manner and outward attitude has already changed. Arrogance has already appeared. As has also happened with Randy Baltimore. Let us wait and see.
Have to say the talent mj possesses, is rare. Wish him Gods blessings.
All the best to him. Hope he stays focus, humble and caring. His mother must be super proud!
Before rushing to judgement, let’s see how this youthful cabinet handle the tasks being thrust upon them.
Antigua and Barbuda has a tremendous amount of human resource talents to make us proud on the international stage.
Let’s take our minds back to 1976. Sir Lester Bird was in his mid-30’s and was appointed Deputy Premier / Deputy Prime Minister. To the outside world, he was the de facto Prime Minister.
He had the major undertaking of transforming our economy from sugar and cotton to a service based economy.
Sir Lester Bird had to wait for another 18 years before he was finally given the job as Prime Minister.
So, let’s see how Michael manages the assigned Ministry, listens to the technical staff and handles the media. He must be prepared to listen to yesterday’s children.
Provided he adopts that approach to this major chapter in his life, everything will work out for the best. The ball is now in his hands. As well as his other colleagues.
