LETTER: Hats off to Harold Lovell who has formed the epicenter of 2026 general election

Dear Editor

The electoral clock is definitely ticking down. It is now less than 24 hrs away, before the electorates begin to cast their votes. The atmosphere  certainly reminds me of Time Square in NYC when the new year is approaching. The adrenalin rush is high, The heart begins palpitating faster and anxiety is spiking

In my view, this election will not be business as usual.  The PM’s prediction of winning 17 – 0 will not be a reality.

Although I forsee the Labour party winning this election perhaps by a narrow margin, credit must be given to UPP for its resilience & resoluteness within such short order.

Calling a snap election, one thought that the scale would be tilted one sided & in favour of the Labour party. Surprisingly, this has not been the case. The Labour party has shot themselves in the feet by not attending to the roads as promised and simultaneously making the same mistake similar to the last election by making their die hard supporters be treated as second & third class. Only a few got treated with respect and they can be clearly identified because their voices are the loudest on the talk shows.

UPP’s  theme song has been a bomb shell for their campaign. It has tremendously hyped up the supporters and say what you may,   credit must be given to  Harold Lovell. He has been the epicenter, the catalyst and the fuel for the competitive atmosphere between the two political parties thus causing  UPP to be a major thorn in ABLP’s flesh.

With very limited resources such as paraphernalia, Harold Lovell presence has created a synergy among the UPP team . Hats off Harold!

Clearlrly, it is evident that this election will not be an easy walk over for ABLP.  Clearly,  the PM has put alot into the Labour party’s campaign. He has brought out all his artilleries inspite the opponent has shown to have very limited resources in their arsenal. This speaks of the force that UPP has come with.

Should ABLP lose this election they can only blame themselves. Not attending to the roads at an earlier date and overlooking their grass root members of his party may be the downfall.

There is also that hypocrisy of attacking Harold because of his age yet Dr. Benjamin who is just about the same age is welcomed onto the ABLP slate.

Overall would i like ABLP to win in this election? Yes! I think they have done quite alot for the country. However, making promises and not fulfilling them may just be ABLP’s downfall.

  1. The UPP did well under such limited time restraints, but the fact that they had to resurrect the retired Harold casts doubt that they would have been able to do all this without him. That does not say much for the other members.

They definitely got caught with their pants down despite speculations for months that an election was on the horizon.
