Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the quality of construction and overall project management of the Willy D houses in Freeman Village, undertaken in partnership with Community First Co-operative Credit Union.
As a homeowner who invested in this project, I have encountered numerous issues that are simply unacceptable.
The workmanship displayed in the construction of my home is substandard and riddled with problems, including:
Poor Plumbing,
Damaged Flooring: Floor boards had several chops in them and had to be puttied.
Septic Tank Installation: Septic tank was not finished even after letter of completion was given. Pipes were not completely connected.
Broken Toilet Seats: toilet seat was broken within 3 weeks.
Cracking Steps: In less than 3 months cracks amongst the step started to show.
These deficiencies point to a lack of quality control and oversight during the construction process.
Furthermore, the delivery of many homes were significantly delayed beyond the timeframe initially promised. This delay caused considerable inconvenience and disruption to many personal plans.
In addition, the absence of a dedicated project manager from the credit union to oversee the construction process is a major concern. It has resulted in a lack of accountability and responsiveness to the issues faced by homeowners.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Willy D to address the construction problems, the workers have been unresponsive and failed to rectify the issues. This has forced many to hire outside contractors at thier own expense to fix the deficiencies, adding further financial burden.
While I commend the pleasant and helpful demeanor of the staff at the Willy D office, it does not compensate for the significant shortcomings in the construction quality and project management.
I am deeply disappointed with the partnership between Community First Co-operative Credit Union and Willy D houses. The poor workmanship, project delays, and lack of responsiveness to rectify the issues have caused significant distress and financial strain.
I urge the credit union to take immediate action to address these concerns. This includes assigning a dedicated project manager, ensuring prompt response to repair requests, and holding Willy D accountable for the substandard construction.
Please take my concerns seriously and implement the necessary measures to rectify the situation for all affected homeowners.
Sincerely,
DISAPPOINTED

I bemoan the so call trades men we have in Antigua, do you know all the roofs in Antigua had the same pitch or height? That is because that person learned trade with someone that teaches them the trade, and it is perpetuated continuously, no applied Pythagorean theorems as it pertains to angles, so they don’t know any cuts for a higher roof, then the next thing they will lay down some concrete blocks in the ground and then build the wooden floor on it, can’t they think innovative and more resilient by deciding to have that concrete blocks at the corner come straight up to the ring beam? Yes, bring it up 9 ft and tie a ring beam on top of that to hold roof rafters and also a flooring beam to hold flooring so the house though built with wood will have concrete strength that would be long lasting, putting the concrete beam to just hold a 4″*4″ wood beam will not be stable, the earth will shift and then you find most of the support under a wooden house tilting and cause the board floor to drop unlevel, the other way around if you bring up the corners in concrete and tie roofing rafters in a ring beam it is hurricane proof and the floor rafter in concrete beam it is stable and will actually achieve the concrete house lifespan and if you decide in the future to turn it to complete concrete wall the foundation is already there you can remove the galvanized roof and cast a concrete floor and build upstairs, the trade men learn a trade to build poor people substandard housing from colonial era and has not change since, everything in Antigua is static, whether we have engineers the colonial tradition prevails.
Partnerships should bring progress, not problems. Hope this gets resolved soon.
Is there an alternative solution? I believe the people deserve quality housing without controversy.
Business needs to stop focus on money and learn to do their job properly… that is pure rubbish… It didn’t happen to me but i am really pissed off
I feel your pain! Wasn’t this the same credit union implicated some months ago in the illegal dumping of garbage somewhere in the Futches Creek area?? Management needs to conduct a serious self-anaysis and be careful about the sub-contractors you dole out people’s to in the name of garbage disposal and house construction.
For a big business like CFCCU …. DO BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Was due diligence done? We can’t afford to have shady deals affecting our neighborhoods.
It is as though I wrote this letter. I have had the identical experience. Every single thing this writer said I have experience this was a treacherous experience. Community First did not care, there was no accountability no protection for the borrower and let’s not talk about Willy D. Omg All lies nothing that was promised was delivered and the delays were beyond acceptable. I have aged significantly since this ordeal. This is another location not freeman village and yet i had the same and probably worse treatment. I ended up spending more to fix all of the mishaps less than a year into the project just this week i had to call a plumber AGAIN. I would not recommend this. BUYER BEWARE
It’s about time someone speak out on this, will D need to do better, I live in one of the houses, n it’s one problem after another, n he train his workers to lie to us when we visit the office to report the issue we facing in the house, windows falling out,all the pipe them leaking, all cheap materials he use to build the house,6 months time n the paint falling off the wood, willy D is a WICKED MAN.
People needs to do their research before investing in such large projects. Decades now people complaining about that company, who can remember issues with houses at Potter’s Bluff.
This is really sad! This is an investment for life,. You put your hard own money into investing in a property , you’re expecting the best!!!!!
Going forward persons should stop patronizing their business…..
Is it any different from what obtains at National Housing? They are one and the same; their motive is to deceive.
Well well well a bunch of corruption in this country, people trying to build a home has to go through so much bullshit. The so call contractors some of them are the worse. They are badminded and greedy always charging more than what the project is worth, cutting corners, using old material on people house know one know who they can trust in the building industry in this country and it is a damn shame. Some people get away with murder in this country just because of who they are or who they are affiliated with.
