AMIN NOTE: THIS LETTER WAS NOT SUBMITTED BY. Merina Codougan, Medical Records Manager, Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre
Dear Editor,
As an employee who has witnessed and experienced the internal workings of the organization for quite some time, I feel compelled to raise a series of concerns regarding the current state of the Human Resources department at SLBMC.
These issues not only affect employee morale but also the professionalism and ethical standards that should be upheld within the hospital.
First, there is a noticeable lack of transparency and merit-based decision-making within the HR department. It is troubling to see positions being filled based on personal relationships rather than qualifications or experience.
The practice of promoting individuals simply because they are “friends” with HR undermines the credibility of the department and raises serious questions about the fairness and professionalism of the promotion process.
When qualified individuals are overlooked in favor of those without the necessary qualifications, it sends a message that hard work and dedication are not valued.
Furthermore, there is a pressing concern about the overall effectiveness and purpose of the HR department. The addition of new staff members to HR, while intended to improve operations, has not resulted in any noticeable improvements.

The existing problems, including a lack of clear communication, poor handling of internal conflicts, and inefficiency in addressing employee concerns, continue to persist without resolution.
Another issue that needs immediate attention is the absence of a consistent dress code policy. It is disheartening to observe that certain administrative staff members are allowed to wear revealing attire without any repercussions.
This not only violates basic standards of professionalism but also creates an uncomfortable work environment for others. A clear and enforceable dress code should be established and followed by all employees, regardless of their position.
There is also a growing sense of frustration among staff who feel they are being denied opportunities for growth and advancement.
Employees who have dedicated years of service to the hospital are often overlooked in favor of those with little to no experience in the field. Many are left wondering why positions are being filled without proper advertisement or internal promotion opportunities.
It seems as though only those who align themselves with the HR manager are granted opportunities for advancement, while others are left stagnant in their current roles.
This creates a toxic culture where loyalty and hard work are not recognized or rewarded.
Finally, the confidentiality of employee matters is a significant concern.
HR should be a trusted department where sensitive information is kept private, yet it seems that personal matters and internal discussions are being shared openly, further eroding trust and morale within the hospital.

Talking truth!!!
Well said
This reminds me of the Antigua and Barbuda water-down Immigration Department, where you have to be a news carrier, friends with the top, and a BIG SUPPORTER OF THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT to get a promotion.
Facts 💯
Me work dey and a de truth
God na sleep! Serve them up!
This sounds like health center. Having qualified workers and the dutty chief won’t promote them cause they ain’t gossiping about others to her but God nah sleep 🙃
The problem is, people are afraid to voice there concerns, because when they do they are being victimized, this place is corrupt, a lot of conflict of interest, but life is short.. keep doing the right thing, and you will be rewarded by the most High🙏🏾..
This is not just a SLBMC issue never the less what will the administration do to correct problems like this?? turn a blind eye most likely nothing ever get resolved when bosses them self a the one promoting nonsense so who can we really turn to. Also speaking out in meetings makes you a target
Eh eh. The people that work dey and complain a da same set that cannot for dem life send one proper email and will embarrass the hospital daily with dem terrible customer service skills. As fu me granny woulda say.. if you nuh like um, lie dung side um..

Dem wrong, plenty intelligent people til get over looked just cause dem na friend up with hr. R u day can’t tell r u friend dem wrong, full a faeces. So much people can jealous or you dutty friend ha one problem? Shut ya scnt
You couldn’t have said it better
Nepotism & favoritism seems to be a disease that is prevailing the public & government sectors.
The modus of operation by those in the hierarchy seems to be “come sit, drink and bring news to me and you will surely get your bread buttered.
MEEEE coulda work anywhere and get overlooked all the time and complain TR8??? Me woulda find one different opportunity with more money.. instead of complaining ! And yes, my wonder bread is very buttered and toasted. I thank you! And you anarl can move ya jealous SCnt! Just sound so broke and miserable!
This person just sounds soooo bitter. I saw alot of vacancies being advertised for the hospital the other day why didn’t you apply if you’re so intelligent and believe you have more experience than anyone else. I don’t believe everything people post in the media because they are more than one side to a story. Again yall bitter bitter go do your job and you may not be overlooked.
Blasting will do what exactly?? You need to have a conversation if you have an issue. You think the media will fix things for you.
Everybody just needs to grow up and stop assuming who said what and who wrote what. This is such a terrible look on the hospital smh. This do not look good one bit. Please cut this out. We may probably be shocked if we found out who wrote the article. Sometimes it’s really not what or who we may think. Life is going to teach you a hard lesson. But for now, just stop this bickering
Not even our back pay or one month salary nothing they just love to control, divide and rule like is slavery or school when we all a grown up but be a blind eye to there friends corruption
As a grown woman I think it’s sad the site had to put out a note to clear up any confusion about the blatant false accusations. Yet not one apology, pride and ego win again. Not only did that individual deserves an apology, but the institution also. Some comments will come off as though the HR is honestly having conversations about employees because you all were sure about situations. It’s a sore to read, and she should discourage any further comments. Those comments is not making her look any better than the article stated. This is just my advice. Be cautious and smarter than that. Don’t make any more comments, because they look worst for the HR than the accused. Please just issue ah apology to the institution as well. Have a blessed Sunday to all. Hope you all find some resolution, starting to feel heard, and an overall improvement takes place. Everybody put your ego aside and just take things into consideration for the betterment of the institution. God bless
