LETTER: Cabinet of secrets and convenient disclosures

Subject: Transparency in Cabinet Reports

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the lack of transparency in the weekly reports released by the Cabinet of Antigua.

While these reports highlight what is often referred to as “low-hanging fruit” and publicize major decisions, there is a glaring omission when it comes to certain crucial details.

Specifically, I am referring to the recent decision regarding duty-free concessions for the crematorium.

It is puzzling why such information was not included in the public report, especially considering that the need for a crematorium was discussed in previous Cabinet meetings.

This omission raises questions about what else might be hidden from public view.

I understand the need for confidentiality in some matters, but transparency is essential for maintaining trust and accountability.

It is disheartening to see the same repetitive reports week after week, leading to a lack of interest in reading the Cabinet releases altogether.

This begs the question: Is the release of these reports serving as a distraction from more significant issues within the Cabinet?

I commend the patriotic Antiguan who leaked part of the Cabinet decision regarding duty-free concessions.

This act of transparency is commendable and highlights the importance of ensuring that the public is informed about key decisions that impact our nation.

I urge the Cabinet to prioritize transparency and accountability in their reports.

It is only through open communication and disclosure of important decisions that we can build a stronger and more trusting relationship between the government and the people.

Sincerely, OPM Employee

  1. Asking this Gaston Browne led administration for transparency is like asking a pig to stay out of the mud. Since it’s in it’s nature, the probability of that happening is zero.
We get no audited annual report as dictated by law; the DAWG borrows money without the input of parliament; Arthur Thomas is appointed without consultation with the leader of the opposition ; the list is endless.
The politicians are in way to deep into skulduggery, corruption, getting rich clandestinely, nepotism and Lord knows what else.
    Good article but wishful thinking.

  2. That Kitchen Cabinet, tells us what they think we would want to hear. They would release sweet sounding nothings to us through Linohel Wurst, weekly. The thinks that really affect mostly the needy are kept close to their vests. All those lucrative deals that benefits them and their concubines are withheld from us.Greedy sets of bastards.

  3. When Gaston boldly explained to the Country on his radio station, the method he used to steal the election and the Country was not closed down until they all retire from office then this is the result.
    Close the place down.!!!
Harvest your essentials and then move to close the place down.

    • @WINSTON SOUTHWELL

You are just a Gaston Browne hater. Try to achieve for yourself and stop looking at others. Winston Southwell, BRIXTONIAN and other UPP minions are full of HATRED.
YOU Guys will be in Opposition forever. All Antiguans can see through you Guys.

      • Again, the Gastonites “hanging their hats” with the rhetoric of so-called ‘hatred’ of Gaston Browne. Desperado’s!

HOW MANY TIMES MUST WE TELL YOU THAT IT’S NOT ABOUT HATRED … HE’S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO GOVERN THIS FANTASTIC COUNTRY. SIMPLE!

However, I feel your frustration @ JP 😉

BTW, what’s your take on Daryl Matthew’s taking over from Gassssston? 😁

      • Like Gaston Browne when he has no defense he uses gutter defense with false accusations to attack the messenger.
I don’t expect you have an answer based on facts, for there is no merit to your statement
Rather than castings aspersions explain why you think I hate Gaston. Are you suggesting that I hate him for I speak the truth?
Further, I’m double Ivy with regards to achievement can’t get better than that.

  4. You do know they don’t have to publicly disclose Cabinet decisions, right? They are sworn to secrecy.
It’s only since Gaston been in power y’all started getting Post- Cabinet Media Briefings and notes.
Say what you will about Gaston, but his administration is the most transparent government in Antigua.
