Dear Editor,

Earlier this week, I visited Barbuda for a short get away from the mainland.

It was my first time visiting the island and the positive impression of the island is going to resonate with me for a long time.

Barbuda in my view definitely has great potential of becoming an attractive site for locals & tourists a like.

For those living on the main land in Antigua, Barbuda can definitely be considered as a home away from home.

The island is not fast paced, hence it creates a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation.

Surprisingly,  there seems to be a vast amount of vacant lands on the perimeter of Codrington that is not developed and so, I am of the view that many entertainment parks can be erected to attract visitors.

It is evident that the residents there, need to have a change of mindset & begin to think outside of the box.

Presently,  Codrington looks no different than an ordinary village scenery. I was really surprised & disappointed at the sametime, not to see a main centralized shopping area where stores etc are located.

Most roads appeared dusty and not properly paved.

The buildings along with the surrounding vegetation seems to be masked with dust, leaving me to wonder if there is a prevalence of respiratory conditions such as asthmatic issues among the residents.

Additionally, I noticed also that there were quite alot of derilict vehicles occupying people’s yards.

In my view, the airport terminal needs expanding so that a reasonable amount of passengers can be accommodated from the elements of the weather.

The security check point also needs upgrading and the main road from the airport leading to Codrington needs to be properly paved.

Road signs also need to be erected inorder to identify the different names of the roads.

I must admit that I was not too happy to see a capital of a country looking like a village setting.

The small shops were seen scattered here & there, along the roads in simple buildings that certainly needs a face lift.

Overall, there is no doubt that Barbuda can be great place to visit.

The residential areas are quite impressive.

The layout of the houses are neatly uniformed and most persons seem to reside in concrete structures with each house allotted a reasonable amount of yard space.

Of course my style! Even the architecture of the secondary school is second to none.

  1. When you start thinking outside the box, you might just find yourself outside the box permanently when you are outnumbered and become second class where you were born
