Dear Editor,
As I write this letter I find myself feeling hate towards Gaston Brown and his Government. I voted last election for him with the hope that thins would improve in Antigua and Barbuda. But it has only improved for himself.
I went online and checked the movement of prices in various Caribbean countries, and to see how other leaders are easing the pain at the pumps for their citizens. In Barbados, Prime Minister Mia Mottley lowered gas prices. In Guyana, President Irfaan Ali reduced gas taxes to 0%. In Saint Lucia, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre kept prices under $15.
This morning I read in your news that, the $15.70 gallon petrol price would continue at the pumps – this means more pain at the pump for Antiguans and Barbudans. I want to remind my fellow hotel workers that non of the cabinet minister pay for gas. They simply go to the Government motor Pool and say “fill her up”.
We hotel workers are still struggling trying to make ends meet having returned to work after the lockdown ands having been forced to take a vaccine to return to work. It means that we all have to now take the hotel bus to work instead of driving our own vehicles so that we could get home in a reasonable time after work to our families.
My concern of course, could be a politrick to fatten the pockets of the people now? And reduce prices right before the election. But, it’s we, the people that have to pay the high price for this politrick to work.
The fact of the matter is, there are a variety of actions that can be taken to soften the impact during these times. But, the fact that our Prime Minister and our government are not helping speaks volumes to what they’re really all about. Their games are causing harm to people. It’s time for a government that puts people – not their pocketbooks – first.

@Pete: Are you paying $15.70 per gallon for gas? It does not matter your Political Party’s affiliation. Most are paying that price for gasoline, except those implementing the prices. They are getting all things free. So as Elected Officials,Members of Cabinet, them pay for nutten. While you and the rest of us are paying for their lifestyles.
Is Maria Browne still on the Board of West Indies Oil?
