A Reminder to the UPP that Magic Went to Jail for Sexually Assaulting a CHILD

I tried listening to Observer Radio last night to hear the thoughts of the United Progressive Party Chairman D. Giselle Isaac on the most recent resignation from the party.

However, I was turned off to hear that Ian “Magic” Hughes was conducting the interview. Was this man really a journalist? At an inappropriate time, I surmise to prove a close relationship with D. Gisele, he referred to her as “Gis” and as usual, he spoke with the intonation of a kindergarten student. What upsets me most though, is that the UPP has no issue aligning itself with a man who is a convicted sexual offender.

This man took advantage of a person from one of the most vulnerable groups in society, a young girl. It seems as though, this has no bearing on his ability to get along famously with the UPP and be a de facto mouthpiece on the party’s behalf. He has found a home.

Gisele answered one of her first questions and referenced a man who beat his wife, who does not want to admit it and face his shame. Ian was noticeably quiet during this time even though at other intervals, as Gisele spoke, you could hear him paining to cut her off and punish us with his annoying voice.

But there’s no difficulty in understanding why such an analogy may have made Ian uncomfortable. Funny enough, a January 27, 2018 article published… guess where?

In The Daily Observer called, ” ‘Magic’ jailed for sex crimes” says, “High Court Justice Keith Thom imposed the sentence yesterday after hearing from Hughes’ lawyer, John Fuller, who was at pains to get him to apologise for his actions. A social inquiry report painted a negative picture of the manner in which Hughes socialises with women.

The court was told that the violation had impacted the young victim so severely, she wanted to end her life and had engaged in self mutilation. In this case, Hughes, who was 50 years old at the time, touched the child’s breasts and tried to force her to kiss him more than once, while they were in his vehicle.” This depraved man has the gall to call in on the radio and decry crime in the country while being a convict himself.

This man is talking as if he has moral authority to speak on anyone’s actions, while his actions caused a young girl to want to take her life? Does the UPP have no shame? They talk about the Prime Minister meeting with gang members and the message it sends, but what message are they sending when they make bedfellows with a CONVICTED pedophile? What message are they sending to that young girl and victims of sexual abuse?

How dare they elevate this man to the point that he feels comfortable and the party’s chairman who happens to be a WOMAN feels fine having a discussion with him and being affiliated with him?

The UPP is truly morally bankrupt to think that people like me, will be blinded by their accusations of calling defectors names and accusing them of loving filthy lucre, while they love and accept people who are CRIMINALLY GUILTY OF WORSE.

Look, the UPP can call the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party corrupt and every manner of evil but they need to go and take a long, hard look in the mirror and remove the mucous clouding their eyes.

    Evidently,Magic has no use for Gaston Browne and ALP, and this seems to be the problem with this letter.
    Magic simply stated that Pompey was never policd commissioner and the man went low and dirty.

    What this writer denies that ALP is corrupt? Once again, UPP is not the government and all this focus on UPP is a distraction from this incompetent, evil,nasty government.

    It’s more like this. The young lady was having an affair with Junior, who was appropriately more her age.

    The mother who was having an affair with the Politician; trafficked the young lady to the Politician, who was known to have filthy lucre.

    The politician made a “WILL” recently; with his 100s of millions going to Junior.

    The mother has now trafficked the now wife back to Junior, who was her first lover.

    No question The UPP is a troubled political party; but when ABLP crumb snatchers and PR brigade jumps out pointing fingers, I’d advise them to look inwards and stop trying to fool the venerable minds of uninformed and needy; that ALP has created and maintained as a political strategy.

  8. Why are we getting so nasty and always trying to belittle people instead of raising the level of discourse. We thrive on making everything personal and insulting people. I don’t know that Magics infraction had anything to do with the UPP just as the PM brother infractions didn’t have anything to do with the ABLP. We have to stop this character assassination and let our discussions be issue based and this pertains to both sides of the political divide.

  9. I fully endorse this article in its entirety. It is alleged that the case for which he was imprisoned is not the first.

    I have my own stories of his immorality here in New York as he was my “non-paying” tenant, recommended by Dr. Omyma David to be lodged at my place while facilitating some sort of Sports Tourism Research at the Offices of Antigua and Barbuda.

    He was ultimately evicted with acrimony, taking some of my personal property with him.

    He then associated himself with some Antiguan women of prominence in law, who (it is alleged) subsequently found out the errors of his ways as they were able to prove it first hand. It even caused a rift in the partnership of that small law firm, (allegedly, of course.

    He’s a menace to his God-fearing family of Cassada Gardens, all of whom I know, and to the wider community.
    A dude of no moral integrity.

    I’m astounded that other more important issues that’s currently troubling the country is not seen as more pressing than what’s going on with the inner machinations of the UPP.

    I can only conclude that there’s a march towards destroying all opposition in Antigua, creating a one-party state and dictatorship for Gaston Browne’s and the ABLP.

    A real shame if this happens.

    Our children, grandchildren and the next generation will never forgive us, because we knew about the nefarious practices, and did absolutely NOTHING to resolve it in our lifetime!!!
