Dear PM,
It is very unfortunate that you seems not to be man of your words.
On one of your talk shows with Senator Colin Browne, you made a proposal that each person can pay $100.00 additional towards our vehicle license for the funding towards the refurbishing of the nations roads.
I am sure, for the love our country, we the citizens & residents were all gearing up to make that contribution when that time comes. Surprisingly and disappointingly so, I cannot believe my ears that we are now told to pay 40% more of what we are presently paying for our vehicle licenses
For my vehicle license 40% more would carry me to almost $300.00. Hence I will now be paying approximately $900.00.
The lyrics of the two songs immediately to mind:
BILLS, BILLS, EVERY DAY by the late Mighty Arrow
So much bills to pay
Man can’t see their way
As you done pay one
A next one come
Bills Bills every day
Bills Bills man can’t pay
Water bill to pay,
Grocery bill to pay
Light Noll to pay
Picknie bill to pay.
NOW, MORE LICENSE BILL TO PAY.
THE POOR MAN A FEEL IT by Peter Tosh.
Gotta find a solution to this pollution
The poor man a feel it
Gas gone up
Bus fare gone up
The rent gone up
For meal gone up?
Lighting gone up
The tax gone up
Car parts gone up
And mi can’t take the first law
only him feel it – yeah
Time gone up
Scallion gone up
Onion gone up
Red beans gone up
Black pepper gone up
Chicken gone up
And the parents them angry
Cause the pickney for them hungry
PLEASE PM Browne, reconsider this amount of a 40% increase. It is certainly too much for our pockets.
Alex

The govt has 3 more years in office.
Why not ask for an increase of the $100.00 each year to fund the roads….
All the roads cannot & will not be finished with one year….
About 20,000 Antiguans and Barbudans got duty free concessions to bring in used vehicles from Japan. Don’t cry now. This sudden overloading of our roads which were never built for this quantity of traffic has contributed to the state of the roads. The only people who should be crying now are those who were not party of the duty free giveaways and paid all their taxes to get their vehicle. It is time to pay up now. It is called karma. You all thought owning a vehicle was cheap.
Are you find money for expensive clothes and shoes, hairstyles, fetes and electronics. .pay the damn fee..
Tax & Spend is the policy of most countries now. It’s easy right? The Gov’t needs money make a new tax or increase one. I’m sure there is great wasteful spending in Gov’t right now. I can think of a music festival recently that cost 1.5 million. The ABLP Gov’t should adopt COMMON SENSE policies instead of increasing taxes.
The roads aren’t being fixed with proper materials, when heavy rain comes the surface gets holes, parts of it are washed away and there’s poor drainage. then APUA digs it up and leaves it too.
