LETTER: A pig with lipstick is still a pig

Dear Editor,

I read with a mixture of amusement and disbelief a recent press release from the United Progressive Party (UPP), where D. Giselle Isaac, Chairman of the UPP, accused Antigua Today of being a “lie factory.” In this piece of political theater, she claimed that the publication had been spreading falsehoods aimed at tarnishing her reputation and that of other UPP members.

Over the past few weeks, I have been grateful to Antigua Today for publishing my inside knowledge of the internal strife within the UPP, and every article has been based solely on facts. My articles have accurately predicted the resignations of Dr. Edmund Mansoor, Damani Tabor, and several others I have even put forward direct quotes from the Chairman herself, including threats she allegedly made to party members, which have been supported by resignation letters, most notably from Damani Tabor.

Frankly, I have no idea what fabrications Giselle is referring to. Everything I have reported has already come to light. She further damages her credibility by claiming that Antigua Today is somehow a production of the Office of the Prime Minister—an utterly baseless accusation.

Let me set the record straight with a few more indisputable facts:

1. The UPP recently held an executive meeting with twenty-two potential candidates.

2. Some constituencies have multiple candidates, while others have only one.

3. The Chairman believes general elections will be called next year.

4. The Chairman identified three sitting representatives and two caretakers who, according to internal polls, are likely to lose their seats if an election were held.

5. None of the identified MPs or caretakers attended the meeting.

I challenge the Chairman to publicly deny that she made these predictions.

It’s unfortunate to see how far Jamale Pringle has fallen. His recent comments about “staged resignations” were dismissed as nothing more than a “pathetic excuse and deflection.” It’s clear that Pringle is being misled by the very person who should be guiding him. Instead of receiving sound mentorship, he’s been politically undermined, as evident in the scripted remarks he’s been handed.

Ambition should never overshadow the principles and goals of the organization you serve. If one aspires to a position as dignified as Governor General, they must conduct themselves with grace and be approachable to all citizens. Unfortunately, the Chairman’s behavior has become increasingly bitter and divisive. The internal chaos within the UPP can be traced directly to her attitude and actions.

Under her leadership, the party has been purged of individuals capable of making meaningful contributions. Where is the talent within the UPP? It has resigned, one by one, and more will undoubtedly follow.

This vile and wicked woman continues to be cold, with a calculating demeanor and manipulative nature. She is unfeeling, scanning for weakness in others with venomous intent. She delights in causing suffering, feeding of the misery of those around her. She has expertly conjured webs of lies and betrayal, using others as pawns for her own gains. Lacking empathy and remorse, she feels no guilt for the harm she inflicts, and her personal desires and ambitions knows no bounds, driven by a deep-seated need for control and dominance, with a heart consumed by cruelty and spite.

As they say, “A pig with lipstick is still a pig.” According to Serpent, “Everyone is leaving one by one, until she’s the only woman left standing.”

  4. The misogyny in Antigua is real when it comes to the treatment of ourbwomen here; and especially strong women in politics, management and the business ownership arena.

    Females especially in the political arena, havevtheir looks and dress sense ALWAYS critiqued, whereas their male counterparts are not; and we have the ugliest ‘dye head’ bunch in the Caribbean region without a shadow of a doubt.

    Yet, our women our ridiculed mercilessly, depending on their political persuasions or colours. Why?

    I don’t have any problem with the criticism of them, but surely it must be constructive, on topic, and most importantly, explained in a coherent and intellectual manner.

    For example, when I’m critiquing Katrina Yearwood it is about the problems we have with her running – or lack thereof – our Immigration Department; or even Maria Browne, who for some reason just cannot hit her housing targets for the country as promised in the ABLP’S manifesto.

    Furthermore, when I follow anything on the Honourable Gisele D. Isaacs, all you read are disgusting and disrespectful comments. Nasty!

    Can you imagine thevfurore if ANR commentators kept on talking about Steadroy Benjamin’s over weight; Gaston Browne’s ‘cartoonish’ face and hideously looking moustache; and the number of elderly ABLP politicians with “jet black” hair?

    IT JUST DOESN’T HAPPEN.

    COME ON ANTIGUAN MEN, STAY ON TOPIC WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING ABOUT OUR WOMEN, THEN YOU WON’T COME OVER AS MISOGYNISTIC NEANDERTHALS TO THE WATCHING WORLD …
