A Nightmare at Sir Lester Bird Medical Center: Unprofessionalism at Its Worst
To the Editor,
I am writing to bring to light the appalling treatment and unprofessional service I experienced at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center.
In the evening , I arrived at the hospital seeking urgent medical attention.

However, what I encountered was nothing short of a nightmare.
When I arrived at 9 PM, there was no staff member present at the receptionist desk.
Desperately needing assistance, I stepped further into the facility, only to find a worker fast asleep at her post.
The attached image captures this shocking scene.
My ordeal continued throughout the night.
Despite the emergency room being packed with patients in need, there was only one doctor available to provide care.
As a result, I was forced to endure a wait from 9 PM until 5 AM before I could be seen.
This level of neglect and lack of professionalism is unacceptable.

The health and well-being of patients should be the top priority at any medical center, yet my experience at Sir Lester Bird Medical Center was far from that standard.
I urge the Ministry of Health to address these issues immediately to prevent others from suffering similar mistreatment.

I am so sorry. It is the norm there. I was there and sad part is the folks defending the wrongs and denying there are major or any problems.
There will never be any progress because they do not see anything wrong and that means no need for innovation and highly skilled people. This applies to every aspect of Antigua. Crime fighting, medicine, education, politics, infrastructure, and even in their partner (women and men).
Sad for you…be more healthy and get extra cash to pay private doctor because,this psicopats and criminals not do nothing “THE FISH STARTING STINK FEOM THE HEAD”.
This unholy ignorant,are waiting for the next plandemic..their get the 2 minutes of glory (play as we SAVIORS) and now??? No more sheep’s available to play for the holy cancer chemical cocktail for now…well MR. A to Z..where are you???.
That person could have been working double shift and is probably tired.

Healthcare is a joke in this country! The clinics fall under central government and function like everything else in central government.
The private doctor tek you $$$ and say sweet nuttins. All those who never learn the basics of medicine are trying to pretend to be nice and professional to get your money.
In the end, you end up at the hospital which is run by a statutory body but since the minister is forever trying to run the show, the place is worse than ever.

they do this every night your out there sick an they inside sleeping sometimes u knock on the emergency door an nobody would let u in the hospital is slack at nights trust me I been there that was my work a place in different field I see how they treat ppl ignore u at nights because they want to see

Well I don’t go there at all makes no sense. Only how I would end up there is in an ambulance and that’s not likely cause me and problem come from different planet.
My dear, everyone think nurses are robots, and they’re not entitled to breaks.
There is NOOOOOOOOO WAY @9pm a medical personnel would be asleep with one doctor on duty, and to top it all off, she said emergency is full of persons seeking medical assistance.
Emergency room/area had NEVEEER has one doctor or nurse on duty, NEVEEER the others may be very busy doing stuff for other that also need care just like her. Most of the time people do not want to exercise patients they believe as soon as they get there they must be seen, there is a process to everything in life even the own nurses that works there has to go through the same process.
We are 2 bashful at time to emergency personnel who has to go above and beyond to save our own lives and the lives of others not all the times we are going to have things our way sometimes over own attitude cause people to turn away from us.
There are a lot of times I go into people’s workplace and I have to comply the rules and regulation apply.
Be more patient and apply respect and see the difference
And I don’t care who come for me
Unprofessionalism, apathy and a lack of urgency is the bane of our existence in our country. Yes the current administration is making efforts to deliver superior health care to our nation. However all persons must give of their best while on the job. This is endemic throughout our country. We must also adopt policies and procedures that does not tolerate unprofessionalism or any kind of negative or apathetic response to a patient who is in obvious distress. If this permeates our society we will not have the desired outcomes. The writer of this article should also lodge an official complaint with the hospital administrator and should follow-up.
I have been there four practically a whole day that’s the same evening the rubber bullets were used, I had to leave without getting attended to, talking bout PATIENCE when people came in an meet me an the just walk past an get attended to, up there is who you know
I just wanna know if we forgot that they are humans we well and get tired any fall asleep just like everybody else.. God know she was probably tired. I hope that one day they person who took this picture isn’t in the same or worse position and someone take a picture of you. Smh
