Leave my African Brothers and Sisters alone

45

Dear Editor,

I am becoming more and more angry as I see all the nonsense going on with our stranded African idren.

Suddenly, all types of people are concerned. The UPP is concerned but they have done nothing to try to assist the physical circumstances and suffering of the Africans.

How are they eating? Do any have health issues? What about housing?

Now some so called concerned citizens and religious bodies are having a vigil.

I hope none of the Africans attend.

Only the Catholic Church has offered tangible support.

Then there is an anonymous letter asking for names of those who died in the boat tragedy, claiming the families want to know. More sensational fake news.

The Cameroonians held their own private vigil on Sunday 2nd April. Minister Chet Greene and the entire UN delegation were there. The Cameroonians had photos and names of all of those who died.

So stop making political mileage of our African brothers and sisters. The majority of Antiguans have spurned and dissed them.

Landlords have tripled their rent in US dollars. Our ancestors must be spinning in their graves.

What matters now is not how they got here or who brought them. The fact is that they are here. They are humans. They are Africans.

They have been made to feel unwanted and hated. And we call ourselves Christian.

I end with this quote:

“Our ancestors are not dead and gone. They are buried in every gene, every cell and in our very own DNA.”

  1. “WHAT MATTERS NOW IS NOT HOW THEY GOT HERE OR WHO BROUGHT THEM. THE FACT IS THAT THEY ARE HERE. THEY ARE HUMANS. THEY ARE AFRICANS”.

That is where you are wrong. How they got here is of utmost importance.

Why don’t you take them in?

If you have not looked around, most CITIZENS in this country are living
    hand-to-mouth and scarcely that.

WE CANNOT AFFORD THEM AND THAT IS THE FACT. So get used to it.

The majority of us say they have to go and those who brought them here HAVE TO GO TO.

This has nothing to do with the U.P.P. THIS HAVE EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE CONFUSION THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT HAVE CAUSED.

  2. There are Antiguan supporters of both main political parties who have given shelter and monetary support to the stranded Africans. This is not a political issue for tue opposition. The ruling party has wiped its hands of any responsibility or accountability. There are more questions than answers as to how and why tourists became migrants, potential visa holders and now refugees. Antiguans have had contentious relationships with Dominicans, Jamaicans, Guyanese, people from the D.R. and many others. However, Antigua and Barbuda is now the “United Nations” of the Caribbean. Just like tracking visitors during Covid, there should have been a better tracking system for the “migrant-refugees.” The African Brothers and Sisters seem not to want to become citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, and were just passing through. High risks were taken as has been done on treks across the Sahara and fatal ocean trips to Spain and Greece. Accountability must be accepted on the Government and private sector sides.

  3. @”angry to the depth”. Did the upp bring these Africans here laborite? You need to direct your blame to ALP, they’re the ones who caused this mess!! At no point u address the root cause of this issue but u found time to mention the opposition! I am sorry for the lost of life but these people traveled on the boat at their own free will. Don’t think for a second they knew it was illegal. They were suppose be brought here as tourist, why cant they go back?! There are no provisions to keep these people here so why on earth should tax payers ft the bill? Antigua is a third world country incase you didn’t know. These people can potentially take you or your love one job, perhaps then u will retact your statement. The irony is that they don’t even want to be here…. this is just laughable.

    • No, the UPP is not responsible… but your anger is directed towards the person who’s empathizing with people in need, where you showed none to your brothers/sisters… colonialism has hardened your heart against the plight of others. Disgraceful!

  4. To the author, instead of asking what others have done, tell us what you have done personally for your “African brothers and sisters.”
It appears you’re the one seeking to make political mileage by mentioning UPP. How many of the landlords that tripled the rents are ALP supporters?
There are/were supporters of ALP that are/were not pleased with how the Africans were presented to the country…ie as “wealthy investors, tourist, then opportunistic migrants.”
If you need someone to blame for what’s happening to your “African brothers and sisters,” I would suggest you start by looking at the African who works in Agriculture –Then work your way up from there.

No amount of letters are going to deter concerned Antiguans from questioning and calling for an international inquiry to shed light on how this organized human trafficking/smuggling began.

    • What the @&$^ have you done to alleviate their plight, instead of disparaging the comment of a citizen, who empathized with persons in need of help? You’re a lousy piece of sht. steeped in colonialism, which is why you show distaste for a person with a kind heart…

      • Struck a nerve, eh Dell?🤣🤣🤣. Look in your mirror and you’ll see the piece of shit looking back at you.

I don’t have to do anything because I was not part of the scamming of these people who became victims of organized gangs in human trafficking / smuggling.
I reserved my charity for fellow Antiguans who are struggling in Antigua too.

You’re much too angry NOT to be one of the thieves involved in this heist. You attacks on so many comments only served to highlight your guilt. Just know, in order for you to insult me, I would first have to value your opinion. Cry me a river baby!

  5. Dear @ Angry To the Max,

I note with interest that you too have fallen for Nicholas Melford’s nonsensical and deflectionary tactics by raising the issue about how Antiguans “hate” the Africans that are stranded here in Antigua.

Before this devious Member of Parliament mentioned the word “hate” at the recent cabinet meeting; the discussions was all about the citizens of the country wanting clarity from Gaston Browne and wanting to know how the Africans arrived here under these suspicious circumstances.

If our Prime Minister had done so initially, then I’m sure the majority of autochthonous Antiguans would have accepted his reasoning.

However instead, all that the ABLP cabinet (under the guidance of Nicholas Melford and Gaston Browne) has decided to use hatred against the Africans to create some sort of culture war between us; whilst in the meantime, nobody is talking about how they arrived here in the first instance. Clever, and yet an absolute stroke of genius by Browne and Melford.

    Regards

    From Brixtonian

    • … And by the way, Gaston ‘Marvellous’ Browne is hoping that this duplicitous collaboration with the Nigerian Airline and the trafficking will disappear, the autochthonous Antiguans will NEVER allow it without a proper explanation. NEVER!!!

  6. Well said, but, let’s be honest about human behavior…self preservation often comes before self sacrifice. The Brown GOVT contributed to this mess by signing a deal with a Nigerian Syndicate and surprise we have problems.

I told my father a nanosecond after the formation of Antiguan Airways that Antigua will regret making such a deal because of the well established history of corruption within Nigeria and other Carribean nations running away from this Nigerian Syndicate faster that Usain bolt.

  7. A…then, tell the #SCAMPS, who got SHAMED AND #SCAMED, to introduce Swahili and other African languages into the schools from pre-school to State College with a degree in African Studies from UWI-Five Islands.

    B…declare MAY 25th, a Public_Holliday(should be the true #SHEROES and #HEROES Holiday Celebrations).

C…drop the licensing fee for the CANNABIS INDUSTRY, and, #FREE_UP the AFRICANS who have being living in this side of the Atlantic, such as the RASTAFARI who the #SCAMPS in government persecuted, prosecuted, jailed, killed over the MARIJUANA/HEMP PLANT, the one and same which the policy makers, those #WHO’RE responsible for the draconian laws, their implementation and use, these same ones are now making legal money, while the children of the African Slaves, the RASTAFARI get to be Field Hands/Labour Force for the Cannabis Industry.

This lead to these present day Africans, brought to Antigua, in the dead of night under a SCAM, the Nation is rolling out the Red Carpet, and it’s understandable in these “politically correct times,” so, since, all of a sudden our AFRICAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS, should be left alone, let’s do an experiment.

Fly 1000 Antiguans to any major city in Africa where there’s positive growth in their economy’s, just drop them at the Airport,,with little money, some with some money, some with plenty money. Let’s see how the Africans will treat 1000 of the ABLP – Antigua Barbuda Labour Party Members!
By the way, make sure, the Charter Flights from Antigua to Africa are done, the same as the three which the government officials were not aware of.

  9. Why should we ignore how the Africans got here? We were told to expect wealthy tourists. What happened? Who took away these people’s life savings and promised them a ride to South America? We should be going after the culprits!!! How can you show any compassion for these victims without showing any regard for the justice that they deserve?
The government is complicit in this fiasco. We need to know the truth. Where the money gone???? Where is Marvelous Mike?

  10. Well, look at statistics! I wish the writer would have presented a more detailed outline of statistics showing that the Cameroonians have only received “tangible” help from the Catholic church, landlords have upped their prices in U.S. and the UPP has not offered much physical help. I wish the writer had mentioned what he/she has done to assist. I wish the writer would have suggested ways persons can help (based on the needs of the wealthy Cameroonians). What other help can be offered to those who are wealthy?
Writer, if you don’t have all the details, hush🤫.

  11. Writer, so, you interviewed all the Cameroonians and came to the conclusion that the UPP has not offered much physical help, only the Catholics have offered any tangible help and landlords have upped their prices in $ U.S. Please check your source (s) before coming public.
What sort of help do they need other than to leave Antigua and go to the U.S.A., that you know of. Have you been helping and in what way?
If you have the means to help, then help them jack. Not everyone have the means to help.

    • @Nonsense.
Stupid “antiquans”, Never heard of them, must be a Marvelous tribe not from Antigua flown in at dead of night again, hey ho!

  12. As we speak African nations are standing up and speaking out against issues that the west are trying to impose on them. Guess what? They not having it. As soon as Antiguans speak up on issues, dem hate foreigners and dem stupid dunce remarks. We love them but do them the favour and return them to their homeland. They will not starve there and they are educated so joblessness is not a likely issue.

    • As a well read and well versed Antiguan, I would challenge @ Nonsense to any debate of his (or her) choosing.

However, I know they’ll NEVER accept my summons to contest, because Brixtonian would easily make them look more than stupid.

COME ON @ NONSENSE, WHEY YOU DEY?

    • Tell us what you did/are doing for the Africans, TEN MEN. I have a feeling you’re the one who say “I don’t know these people, I never meet them.” Btw, how many Antiguans have you and or the author helped lately? You do know that there are many Antiguans in need of help also — There have been two house fires recently and the occupants are now homeless, how are y’all planing on helping those people? I hope the Catholic Church will also remember the occupation of these lost homes.

  13. Are Africans our only Brothers and Sisters? If we are all Children of God. Are we not Brothers and Sisters regardless of skinned colors?

  14. I concur 100% with the sentiments of the writer. It is sad the manner in which the opposition and their cronies now want to show their concern about these people, when first they accused them of coming here to vote. Then the Xenophobia saying we cannot take in more people, when daily Syrians and Lebanese citizens and coming here and making Antigua their home as they flee from the war-torn cities of their country. Not one of them is holding a fund raising for these people. As I said in another post, my church the Catholic Church has already raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist these Africans. Maybe because some of our priests come from Africa and they understand what these people are going through.

    • @From The Sideline.
In a previous post you I think you mentioned $40,000, correct me if I’m wrong. I have no wish to rain on your parade however, be warned. African priests are renowned elsewhere for screwing the last dollar out of their congregations. I have beep reliably told if the collection bucket isn’t as full as they would like, the priest insists a second collection is taken to fill it up. They like flashy cars and I’ve seen one in an African country who actually owns his private jet bought from the proceeds of his church collections. Be alert. I am not been flippant.

    • Now, the War Torn card is being played to elicit what exactly, TEN MEN? Why weren’t we told the truth from the outset? You can’t lie to people and then expect them to immediately turn off one emotion & turn on another.

It it SAD how the ALP and its minions are trying to gloss over their involvement in this organized trafficking/smuggling operation. Also attempting to
deflect attention away from themselves while projecting their guilt onto innocent UPP members; people who HAD NOTHING To Do With These Criminal Activities.

We know how badly you would like this fiasco to disappear from the public arena, TEN MEN. However, the more you attack the “UPP cronies” lol, the more fuel you’re adding to the fire.
Trying to shame UPP members will not work either because, they haven’t done anything to be ashamed of. Further, UPP members are entitled to change their minds about any notions they may have had about the Africans. After all, the entire country was LIED to about who these people are and why they came to ANU. It’s only logical that assumptions were made once it was noted that what was told to the nation were nothing but LIES, and more LIES.

Start with the man in the mirror to place any blame!

      • Correction: The above comment is a retort to
**From The Sidelines** …. NOT…TEN MEN.

  15. Laws were broken here, people were scammed, monies were recklessly spent, monies that could have been used to clean up St John’s, and here this writer trying to change the topic..smdh. To every action there is reaction, and blame any other entity than the heads of government that are reasonable for this fiasco, is simply being blind and disingenuous. The writer should have wrote ” leave Antigua people alone” because the shame and the embarrassment they had to put up with because of this willful endeavor to bring unverified refugee’s into a country that can barely afford another scandal, is just downright cruel. I feel for the Antiguans who has to deal with this government and it’s fallouts way after this fiasco has passed.

  16. Blacks being racist to same blacks u guys are joking ,May God forgive most of you.anyways some of.you guys are super nice and some are just dump, funny thing is all the Africans are 10 times educated than most of you all.we are not begggers but trying to make the world a better place .I forgive most of you all Antiguans

    • We don’t give a horses arse how educated y’all are.
Africans are so educated, but running out of their countries trying to get to the white man’s land where you’re not wanted. Why not use your education to build up your own Homeland?
If y’all are so smart, how come y’all were conned
and now stuck in Antigua? Or is that story just a lying CON too? I’m so glad you’re educated enough to show Antiguans in your comment why they SHOULDN’T HELP ANY OF YOU.

    • 31 (10 times more educated) Africans gets on a 12 persons capacity fishing boat trying to illegally enter the USVI Well, their education didn’t serve them very well, did it? They say common sense isn’t so common. I’m willing to buy you a ticket back your country.

US Coast Guards On High Alert Now!

    • I’d love to take on your “educational” bait @ King B, but the editors here at ANR would NEVER publish my detestable, disagreeable and distasteful response, so I’ll give you a pass … this time!

      • … oh, by the way, are you a real king 👑, or are you really a PRINTER 🖨 like the con artist Marvellous Mike …? 😁

    • @King B.
So Cameroonians are 10 times more educated than Antiguans as you say. The evidence suggests otherwise. Why are these educated Cameroonians stuck in Antigua trying to enter the US illegally without proper documentation? Your education isn’t serving you very well, is it? You say you are trying to make the world a better place: you cannot be serious. Try making yourself a top class comedian first and then make the world laugh at you.
