The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court today paid tribute to Gene Pestaina, the former Director of Public Prosecutions who died last month after a battle with cancer.
Pestaina served as DPP in both Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica before retiring from a long career in the public service, law enforcement and law.
Family members, friends and former colleagues packed the High Court in Dominica.
President of the Dominica Bar Association Mary Roberts said Pestaina served his people well.
“He was honest and forthright. These are very sterling qualities,” she said.
Dominica’s current DPP Evelina Baptiste told the sitting that her departed colleague “served consistently.”
Pestaina served as DPP in Dominica for over ten years.
He worked over one year in Antigua in the same capacity.
Pestaina also served more than 19 years as a member of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force.
“Gene was a true patriot,” said Michael Bruney, Pestsina’s former class mate.
