A 51-year-old man’s sentencing for repeatedly raping his minor daughter was adjourned after his lawyer cited childhood trauma.
The man pleaded guilty to four counts of incest from 2014 to 2015, resulting in the victim’s pregnancy at 15.
His defence requested time for a psychological evaluation, arguing the defendant’s behavior stemmed from his own abuse.
The victim, now 26, reported abuse starting at age 11, initially to a school counselor, but was manipulated into recanting.
Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Shannon Jones-Gittens highlighted the crimes’ severity, noting a maximum 15-year sentence per count. Sentencing was adjourned until July 29 for further evaluation.

Justice for the daughter!
You should have protected her with all your heart but instead you metted out the same treatment to her.Please to lock him up and throw away the keys.

I was sexually assaulted as a very young child and I went on to have four beautiful children and my only concern was to protect from “family” predators as well as “stranger danger”. The school counselor who shut her down should feel disgraceful for failing to protect that child instead of worrying about an adult who at any given time sought help for his traumas IF he even had any to begin with. Sounds like he looking for an escape route instead of facing the consequences of his action. His daughter will suffer the rest of her life…..he should suffer as well.
Please Put him where he needs to go behind bars for a very long time.I pray that the LORD will bring healing to his daughter for the Trauma that she have experienced for all these years.

What a shame , all of sudden he has been abused?he had more than time was to seek help if that’s so, but instead he preyed on his own daughter for so long. He’s faking and his attorney has no shame to be in couranging him with this fake nonsense. Life without parole. The poor child have to live with this for the rest if her life.
He no have childhood trauma, it’s he himself that is the trauma to society, because he discredit man and father’s in a way that will cause suspicion and mistrust of good parenting father’s.
What aload of nonsense! A father who allegedly been abused, visited his “trauma” unto his daughter. It would be a mockery of the judiciary system, if he is allowed to walk away from prison.
Hopefully, the probationary services will recommend prison time and whilst serving time as specified in the guidelines he could be offered counselling whilst in jail where he could reflect on his “childhood trauma and the crime committed against his daughter. He should not escape prison.
In addition, Antiguans should avoid using his lawyer, as the law is an unscrupulous lawyer.
