Attorney Defends Role in Representing Accused in Child Killing Case

Attorney Wendel Alexander has moved to defend his decision to represent 20-year-old Angela Mahia, who is charged with the killing of nine-year-old Chantel Crumb, amid growing public criticism and protests.

Alexander confirmed that he was retained by Mahia’s family and emphasized that every accused person is constitutionally entitled to legal representation.

He acknowledged the public outrage surrounding the case but underscored that the fairness of the trial must not be undermined.

Mahia’s appearances in court have been marked by heavy security, with the young defendant clad in a bulletproof vest in response to threats of vigilante action.

The case has ignited national debate, with some fearing that hostile public remarks could compromise the integrity of the proceedings.

Legal experts warn that if public sentiment is seen as jeopardizing Mahia’s right to a fair trial, her defense team could mount a constitutional challenge. Such a move, if successful, might even result in her release.

The killing of Chantel Crumb has deeply shaken Antigua and Barbuda.

The Grace Farm resident and Five Islands Primary School student was abducted in March while walking home with friends. She was taken only steps from her house, and three days later, her body was discovered in bushes at Weather Hills.

Investigators allege that Mahia was involved in the crime, which has fueled widespread anger and demands for justice.

Despite the intense emotions, Alexander has maintained that the legal process must be allowed to take its course, with the outcome determined by the court.

  1. It’s the sloppyness of the police we are worried about ❗ how expressing how u feel can jeopardize the case when ppl are just simply expressing hurt not spreading rumors of what happened

  2. Goat lucky in charge here we all know that… whether or not she will…we know you is a winner….. If you kno you kno

  3. this i don’t understand, why does a lawyer have to defend his position for representing a young lady charge with murder? when constitution gives her the right to legal counsel. are we saying that no one should represent us. then state would have to get her representation with tax payers money.

  4. I’ve been saying this the moment it went viral that she has a representative and to which she is entitled to. However, antiguans are so quick to think out their asses and run their mouths. Justice will prevail, let the man do his job. I’m not worried about her lawyer I’m worried about the sloppy work of the police officers who might judge let this girl walk free.

  5. People kill in Antigua, because they know they can get away with it, why, because of a “weak fence” called “Sir Knighted Cutie Benjamin”.

He is the most inept AG in all of the Caribbean, and his officers and judiciary is as soft as him, and take the lead from this soft AG.

So there it is people. If officers can gun down citizens and no accountability for such, well that slackness will also trickle down through their investigations.

Sloppy work all the way around.

With no clear pathology as to the cause of Chantels murder, I wouldn’t be surprised if this girl walk free. Others have walked free with less.

I’m just so sorry for what Chantels family is going through. My heart goes out to them.

  6. You think? Walk free? What they going to get jury from Africa that don’t even know Antigua exists and have no knowledge of the case?
Wendel you not God and if she is acquitted that may very well be putting her directly in the path of vigilante justice. God not sleeping

  7. She doesn’t deserve a thing in my opinion!!!! They know what they’re doing in shielding Angela, first protecting her in court, placing her away from everyone now this? The police force and the government are failing their citizens each day! She was just 9-year old not even starting her little life yet before it was horrifically taken from her by the hands of a wicked human(s).
Although she deserves a fair trial… Chantel deserves justice!!
God is in the midst of everything.

  8. Their plan will never work, she’ll never be free after what she did to that innocent child.Hearts are still broken and parents are still traumatized she will never be free

  9. If the trial can be thrown off by public outcry, then maybe the system itself needs urgent review. How can justice truly prevail under such pressure?

  10. I want to know you Faithful National #1. I always look out for your comments. They are great and always full of mystry. Tell us who you are.

  11. Walk free,,well I forget this is Antigua where all wrong became right but remember God is watching and karma is real

  12. So painful. Chantel will never come home again, and yet we’re hearing that the accused could go free because of technicalities

  13. Wait….Just wait a minutes…………Jah know Star!!! so after a child is brutally killed, the accused could walk free just because people are outraged? That’s insane

  14. We all already know she is walking free so what’s all the bs for? The case is already in shambles because certain high figures in higher places do have plenty to lose if she is found guilty. Save us all the crap and let her go. Karma will be the b**c* here!!!

  15. As with a lot of murder cases, the public tend to try them before they reach the courts. I believe that there is a lot that the public still do not know about this case and only at trial would these issues be addressed and divulged. Regardless how we feel about a case, it is only at trial that a defendant’s guilt or innocence is decided.

  16. The parents of Chantel should still be protesting. If she walks free they’re gonna send her away. No justice for Chantel!! Lock her up amd throw away the key.

  17. Wendell does not take a case that he won’t win plus his jombie dem work overtime. It’s simple Angela is going to get way and from the court house STRAIGHT A AIRPORT and that will be the end of that. Remember MONEY walks the bigger bosses that hired her to take this wrap already have this well orchestrated she going straight back to the Dominican Republic to enjoy her pay.

  18. Find the cook at the prison..or one person in the kitchen. Death cap mushrooms, coolant. Arwe need a Dexter among us…..exact vengeance upon every member of her bloodline…
Let us not forget that there is a “different “prosecutor now in place. But then again we dont know all who is involved that must be protected. But there are more ways to skin A cat not just by putting a rope around it’s neck.

  19. Everyone is entitled to representation in Antigua and her Attorney is right. If he feels she cannot get a fair trial he can ask the judge to dismiss her case.

People have to be careful and start trying the case in the public domain a crafty attorney will get her off. The accused certainly has picked the right Attorney because he will fight for her and represent her well.

  20. All we the public wants is justice for Chantel! Can you imagine what it’s like for her family knowing their princess will never walk through that door again? How you take this child from her house and take her this far? She was almost home

  21. As the lawyer is explaining, if the proper legal procedures are not followed. then it will make us look like fools. Are we a civilized society or we want to behave like barbarians? Let’s do it the right way where we listen to the story that the young lady has to give. Let her be examined in a legal way so that justice can prevail. I rest my case.

  22. As the lawyer is saying, we need to let the case take its course. I can only swear and the cries of the public but each case has to be tried on its own merit. If it is not done properly then the very justice that we are looking for could well disappear.

  23. This is shocking. So Wendel Alexandr…For police commissioner…The lawyer everybody run to is basically saying our cries for justice could turn into a get-out-of-jail card? Unbelievable.

  24. Well, they should free her so Antigua can do an excellent job cleaning the garbage off the island. The garbage can be burned at any time when you clean the yard. I don’t know yet why the dams haven’t done their job. She should have been dead by now.

  25. No, no, no.

Honestly I don’t even want to think of that possibility. Nothing and no one should prevent this case from going to trial and Jesuit e being served.

The nation and the Caribbean are watching!

  26. @Shonda, that is the exact statements the law says would prejudice a case causing dismissal of charges.

It seems it is legally impossible or legally impractical for her to get a fair trial in Antigua and Barbuda.

I am in support of Attorney W. Robinson to be on this matter and to protect due process that I am CONSIDERING a symbolic donation to the defendant’s legal fees.

Just like I am considering the same to the victim’s family. But I can’t consider this until they come forward and support due process so that their family member’s life is not tarnished by the victimization of others in their family’s name. The baby’s legacy and purity would forever be damage if due process is violated and humans are victimized in her name.

  27. Her having proper representation will show transparency if there is a conviction. For those who think he shouldn’t represent her, are you also saying the judge and the jury shouldn’t come to court? They are all part of the process.
I believe there are ways to get a fair trial, even with public outcry. Can they not import a jury, even if it will be expensive?

  28. @my way of helping U CAN SPEND ALL YA MONEY PAN SHE DEFENCE INNOCENT OR GUILTY SHE NAR GO DEY WID U!!!! AH SPANISH WIFE YA RH AH LOOK!!!! YA RH ONLY INTERESTED IN THIS BECAUSE ITS A LIGHTSKINNED YOUNG SPANISH WOMAN. THE BISH IS A KILLER AND WENDELL KNOWS IT. HE GO TELL SHE PLEA GUILTY. BOOKMARK THIS!!!!!

  29. The defence team will try and use any which way they can to derail justice for Chantel’s murder.

That’s how some roll when their defence is weak.

And all they’ve got to do is to try and show alleged misconduct in how the police/and or forensic team conducted themselves at the scene of the crime.

Many of us can recall that notorious OJ Simpson murder trial where he got off scott free when his amazing defence team used technicalities and misconduct at the scene of the crime to spare Simpson from prison at the time.

I recall when the accused was asked to put on a glove found at the scene of the crime, which took Simpson an eternity to put on; and when his defence team asked him to remove it, Simpson then pulled off the glove in a matter of seconds.

I saw through this ridiculous defence from the get go. It was ridiculous then, and just as ridiculous today.

It was then that I recognised that anything goes to keep murderers out of prison by a defence team.

I hope Chantel’s horrific kidnapping and murder will be judged on the facts of the case instead of any defence team playing mind games with a jury.
