17

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda will open its borders in a phased approach effective 1 June 2020, when the VC Bird International Airport will begin accepting international and regional air traffic.

During this period, the State will be working on a combination of screening, testing, monitoring and other measures to mitigate the risk of importing any new cases of COVID-19 into the country.

Additionally, the State is also implementing measures for the quick detection of any imported cases. This strategy is intended to protect and safeguard the health of both residents and visitors to Antigua and Barbuda.

During Phase I, several protocols will be implemented as follows:

  • All hospitality accommodations to include hotels, resorts, villas and home rentals must satisfy the stipulations of the Ministry of Health and be certified prior to reopening to welcome visitors
  • All arriving passengers must have a mask in their possession for use on disembarkation, which must be worn in all public areas throughout the duration of their stay in Antigua and Barbuda
  • All arriving passengers must complete a health declaration form and will be subjected to screening and temperature checks by Port Health Authorities, upon arrival in Antigua and Barbuda
  • All arriving passengers will be monitored for COVID-19 in accordance with guidelines of the Quarantine Authority
  • All ground transportation operators will be required to be certified and trained prior to the implementation of new sanitation and social distancing passenger transportation protocols

  1. Does this mean there will be no Covid-19 rapid testing of all non-resident passengers?

    • Every passenger will undergo a rapid test on arrival. Authorities may undertake a second test depending on the situation.

      • Is worth our time to get a rapid test within 48 hours of arrival for verification purposes. Also is there any idea how much the rapid test will cost?

        • Kevin the requirement for a test 48 hours in advance was dropped. Rapid tests will be done on arrival. We have not been told whether anyone would be required to pay for a rapid test.

  2. What happens to someone if they test positive at the airport? Specifically, where are sent to quarantine? This is one of the most frequently asked questions. Also, if tested negative are people arriving free to go and do as they like right away?

  3. You never say what the rapid test is. Are you afraid we will question the reliability of the test? The PM is claiming it is 89% accurate, although previously he was saying 87%. Given that he appears to know little about the disease by his statements on the different outcomes for men vs women, how can we trust anything he says about the test? The public has a right to know what test is being used and make our own judgments. Also, what has happened to the hospital in house testing? seems to have sunk without a trace

    • Are returning residents, who test negative, subject to 14 day quarantine? And if so where, home or a facility????

    • What about cruisers who are returning to their boats, will they be allowed to proceed straight to their boat to live aboard if they test negative?

  4. Tourists arriving to the airport will be required to a rapid test? What if they come with proof of a negative test covid test or proof of blood serology antibodies? What if a rapid test is performed but there is zero symptoms and they appear in good health? The CDC reported that a person can test positive for a couple weeks however the infectious period of the virus lasts only the first 11 days. To test everyone would give false sense of security no matter what. Just because you test positive does not mean you are infectious and does not mean that you can spread it to others. It’s just means the remnants of the RNA of the virus is still detectable. Would visitor be denied entry if they are positive? No one will travel if they are ill. Testing is a waste of resources. It’s not an accurate account.

  5. June 1st is tomorrow and there are no SPECIFIC answers about protocol as to how these test will be done.

What kind of test will be taken .. nasal? Blood?

What is the protocol at the airport ? Will everyone proceed to a certain area after customs ?? Before??

Who will pay for these test?

How much will the test cost !??

When will the results come in ??

Do the non residence and visitors return back some place to get the results in 48hrs?

While they wait for the results can they do what they please??

Over the past few days, we heard about test in Antigua giving false negatives or positives .. with Antigua testing hundreds of visitors on a flight are they prepared to be accurate?

Who are performing these test and have they been trained?

Many Many more questions swirl in my mind for a JUNE 1st OPENING in less than 24 hrs…

  6. Are returning residents, who test negative, subject to 14 day quarantine? And if so where, home or a facility????

  7. If one comes home with a test not older than 48 hours and is negative would that resident be able to go home and go back to normal life

  8. rapid tests in the states are being dropped because they are only 48% accurate… A certain Chinese brand has also been dumped as no good at all. Has the govt & Health Dept confirmed what we have and if it is any good. More countries are reporting big increases in their cases & deaths every day,,, we just had a policeman test positive , are we really ready to take on this OPEN BORDER policy at this stage….. If you ask the teachers, they are petrified about opening schools, not only exposing themselves and other staff, but exposing the children and having the responsibility of keeping them safe
