20

Mr. Lamin Newton is set to be sworn in as a Senator in the Upper House of Antigua and Barbuda’s Parliament tomorrow, Friday, November 29, at 11:30 am at Government House in St. John’s.

This appointment marks a significant advancement in Newton’s political career.

Newton’s political journey has been marked by notable shifts.

In January 2020, he resigned from the United Progressive Party (UPP), citing disagreements with its leadership.

Subsequently, he aligned himself with the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).

In July 2024, Newton was selected as the ABLP’s caretaker for the All Saints East and St.Luke constituency.

Newton’s appointment as a Senator underscores his growing influence within the ABLP and Antigua and Barbuda’s political sphere.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by government officials, party members, and supporters.

As a Senator, Newton will participate in the legislative process, contributing to the development and enactment of laws for the country.

The ceremony will be held at Government House in St. John’s.

  1. Thank you for not being ANTI-UWI FIVE ISLANDS CAMPUS like your former party. You did the right thing by leaving Limpy Joe IMF Pimp and his party behind!!!

You paved the way for all them UPP RESIGNATIONS that ensued.

  2. Glad to see all the UPP defectors moving up in the ABLP just goes to show that the ABLP had no talent when is Namba getting his elevation

  3. All you have to do be successful in antigua is switch from UPP to ABLP….meanwhile us Labourites living in squat smh

  4. I wonder how the labourites who have been struggling for all their life feel now to see all the UPP turn coats being propelled upwards while they eat crow? This is the sa.e man who said that he wanted Isn’t he the same man who said that Pringle is made of good material? Isnt he tge same ine who saud that he wanted to see Gaston Browne go to jail. Has be been sanitized? If so by whom? Do we have a labour party or a purple party? How can those folks be trusted so much that they now form the nucleus of the ALP. Chet, don’t you see that Gaston is padding the party with his purple loyalists so that anytime you challenge his leasedahip the purple party will beat the ALP two to one

  5. Growing influence? Are you sure about that? Poor choice Gaston Browne. I guess this will be the peak of his political career because we know for a fact he can’t bang Jamal Pringle. What happen to Mr Freeland , Regis Burton, Sean Benjamin and the rest of youth members. Careful how you treat the true labourites

  6. This dude kiss and lick Gaston ass so much he deserved a Knighthood. Between him, Colin O’Neil and Donna. I am wondering wish one of them is the head ass licker. Lamin mother now will finally put on she hat she bought two years ago, when he and she was outside government house crying when he didn’t get the senatorship two years ago.

  7. I recalled expressing your sentiments to the PM. The present ALP is not interested in having another Hugh Marshall, or a John St. Luce etc. In other words the PM is not interested in the legacy of V.C Bird Sr. He wants an ALP in his own image. The grassroots youths of diehard ALP folks are not ambitious in his view. There’s more glory for him when the guys and gals from the UPP defects to join him

  8. I listened to the town hall tonight and hear the PM tell Lamin senators are not forever…I’m like WTF…it’s like he was giving Lamin senator with one hand and holding if off with the other…everytime Gaston talk bout Lamin it’s always with half effort

  9. Gaston said “UPP only attract people from the bottom of the barrel “. Strange these sane people left UPP and now join the ABLP and elevating above all the long time kool aid comrades . Who are the dunce elements? Ar u blind ? All the minions are been used every elections to keep him in power . While the turn coats are been giving all the goodies in your party , some of the comrades can’t even pay they obligations to APUA . Political prostitutes ! Smh

  10. As I said on many occasions Lamin is in this for the wrong reason. It’s all about the money and power for Lamin. With the political appointment Lamin had no job and no income. With all the political appointment Lamin has several sources of income. Just like under the UPP when they gave Giselle so many appointments and sources of income, now the PM is doing the same thing for Lamin. He works in the ministry of Agriculture gets a salary there. Is chairman of CMC board gets another salary there. And now he will get a salary as Senaror. He is in it for the wrong reason and the PM is blind to see this. Too bad. A leopard never loses its spots. Remember where he comes from. UPP.

  11. So Donna will now take on the chair of CMC, which is not bad for a banking experience.
Once senators were chosen from the community activists, social activists, business men and women, the unions etc . Today every political hopeful is now expected to become a senator. So exactly what is the purpose of this rubber stamp institution. By the way I would have promoted the president of the senate to the speaker of the lower house of parliament. Yes it is where the real debating and politicking takes place.
The senate one way of using the state resources to pay salaries to the caretakers. Build up their image and pay them a salary while they campaign.
Richard Lewis as the MP is reaching out to the caretaker in his constituency. Every committee or group he forms he includes the ABLP caretaker, otherwise he gets nothing done. In the meantime the caretaker do no include him in his projects because he has the government purse. Caribbean democracy!

“Today every political hopeful is now expected to become a senator. So exactly what is the purpose of this rubber stamp institution.” Very good observation. I believe they the political leaders see the senate as a training ground to develop your debating skills. Something I do not agree with. Yes if it is they are going to be given a junior ministry to run than it is mandatory that they sit in the senate.

“So Donna will now take on the chair of CMC, which is not bad for a banking experience.”
Donna is an experience entrepreneur. She has it in her blood, from her father’s side. Lebanese and Syrians and also Chinese are born tradesman/woman. I keep telling people to be an entrepreneur you have to be born one. You can go to school/university and be equiped with the knowledge of how to run a succesful buisiness, but that doesn’t make you an entrepreneur. You will be able to run someone eleses business succesfully with the acquired knowledge. And again Donna brings something to the table so she would be a good senator. Lamin brings absolutely nothing to the table. No business knowledge, no union knowledge nothing of anything but how to progress in the political world by aligning himself with the right people.

And I birdie has told me some disturbing news. It seems that Lamin was removed from CMC Board. The General Manager worked the PM, as she and Lamin did not pull at all. So the PM moved him to the Freetrade Zone. And people there say he is already causing a storm. If this guy ever gets power we will get to really know him. As Short Shirt used to sing, Power Corrupts, but Absolut POWER CORRUPtS ABSOLUTELY. I say give a man power and he will reveal his true character. Watch that space called Lamin. He changes colors based on his circumstances. When he knows he has power and authority he acts like a dictator. Like telling the staff at CMC they need to bring checks for him to sign wherever his is. At the Gym, at home, at the airport, at the stadium. at Pointe FM. You name it. They have to find him and come to him. I understand the last straw that broke the camel’s back was, when he went on a trip with Chet to Marrocco and didn’t change the instruction to the bank that the deputy chair can sign on checks in his absence. CMC’s operation was therefore place on hold, until the minister was able to solve the issue with a special board resolution. Those are signs of dictatorship that I warn the PM to take note of.

Without political appointments, Lamin has no income stream. Therefore he brings nothing to the table. Only talk. Just like Pearl and some others in the UPP camp. And the Pm called them out in the last election. He said, “ah money them look”. Yet he fails to see that right under his nose he has one that is doing the same thing.

  13. What is Pringle doing for his constituency? somebody enlighten me..the deep hole by brother Mike just dung the road from his buddy Kabla can’t fix? Matthew’s road cant fix? Follies Housing Project roads cant fix? the likkle dead end to Swetes ball field cant fix? the deep hole by the ital shop? the hole by Chaplin? how about putting a nice play area/jungle gym for kids on Swetes court, and fixing up the fences and stands? what have you done in 10 years really?
