Subject: Time Off to Vote on Election Day
Employers in Antigua and Barbuda are hereby reminded of their obligation to allow registered voters “a period of four consecutive hours for voting” without loss of pay in accordance with section 34 of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2001; the full text appears below:
(1) “Every employer shall, on polling day, allow every voter a period of four consecutive hours for voting and no employer shall make any deduction from the pay or other remuneration of any such voter or impose upon or exact from him any penalty by reason of his absence during such period”.

(2) “Any employer who, directly or indirectly refuses or by intimidation, undue influence or in any way, interferes with the granting to any voter in his employ of such period of voting, as this section provided, shall be guilty of an offence, and on summary conviction liable to a fine not exceeding three thousand dollars, or to imprisonment not exceeding twelve months.”

We have reached a breaking point with this government. It is absolutely sickening that in Antigua, we pay 40% on licensing old vehicles—just because they’re SUVs. It makes no sense at all to treat them all the same, especially when you cross a border. It should be based on the age of the vehicle, not just a flat rate. This is a government with no heart for poor people who are struggling just to get by. And they say we’re moving forward with the ABLP—certainly not. What they’re doing now is just handing out scraps, trying to distract us, but they have failed miserably. Just look at the roads—they’re a joke. They can’t even get it right—drawing a brand new white line on an old, broken road. This is the insanity we live in—this is the government we’re told is doing such a great job. But it’s all short-sighted. They think we don’t deserve better. They give us a patch of road that doesn’t even line up with the other side. And all those cars—they just swept them under the rug. Gaston says we should move on—says he fixed it—like we’re supposed to just forget it. But we won’t. Antiguans love handouts, and it goes all the way down—from the top to the people they run over. It’s all about money, and Gaston, you will see—money will fade. One day, when all this collapses, people will realize money was what held your party together. And when they said yes, they really meant no.
Labour Commissioner…why is my employer asking for my voters ID. I thought voting was my constitutional right. Why do I feel like it is being violated because they have to pay me for four hours?
