Kiwanis Club Gives Ten Students Scholarship

1

The Kiwanis Club of St. John’s Antigua will today present ten (10) primary school students with a financial boost geared towards the start of their new school year beginning this September.

The scholarship grant which is being awarded, takes its name from the charter president of the Kiwanis Club of St. John’s Antigua, Everett Lake, who will be on hand to do the presentations.

Each scholarship recipient will receive an amount equivalent to EC$500 in value which they will use to purchase school uniforms and /or supplies.

The presentation ceremony will take place today (22nd August) at the Metropolitan University College of Medicine on Newgate Street in St. John’s beginning at 6:00 PM.

The Everett Lake Scholarship, now in its’ third year, is designed to help students whose parents/guardian face difficult economic circumstances and are not able to provide their young children with the basic supplies for the academic year.

Applications were invited from the public and the Board of the Club systematically reviewed each application and through that process selected the students whose parent’s situation indicated the greatest need.

It is expected that the Everett Lake Scholarship for primary school students will continue to be an annual affair with the potential to expand based on the availability of resources.

Proceeds from fundraising projects inclusive of our annual High Tea at the Dockyard, go towards the Scholarship initiative alongside other Community Projects.
