SOURCE- DAILY OBSERVER- Friendships, godparent relationships, and school connections were all exploited in an elaborate loan payment scheme that unfolded at the St John’s Cooperative Credit Union, a court heard on Tuesday in the trial of Kerry Walker.
But before the first witness could even be cross examined, the trial came to an end when Walker decided to admit to the crimes.
The former employee of the St John’s Cooperative Credit Union pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny on Wednesday.
She misappropriated loan payments totalling over $50,000 from multiple credit union members who had trusted her to process their monthly instalments between 2018 and 2020.
Walker, who served as the credit union’s delinquent loans officer, exploited her position and personal relationships with clients to perpetrate the scheme. Among the victims was the godfather to one of Walker’s children.
He had entrusted Walker with money each month to make payments on two loans during different periods.
Two other victims included a teacher who taught Walker’s daughter and served as godmother to one of her children, and a woman, who knew Walker through her child’s school.
It was discovered that Walker would either make partial payments or sometimes no payments at all on clients’ loans.
She managed to conceal the delinquencies by manipulating due dates in the system and avoiding sending out standard notifications to borrowers about their arrears – a responsibility that fell under her purview as the delinquent loans officer.
The scheme unravelled when Walker went on maternity leave, prompting clients to discover their loans were significantly in arrears despite making regular payments to her.
Multiple victims reported never receiving receipts for their payments despite repeated requests. However, their personal connections to Walker led them to continue making payments without pressing too hard for documentation.
The charges involving the third complainant were withdrawn after the victim opted not to proceed with the case.
Her sentencing has been scheduled for December 2.

Stupid confidence entrusted for lack of knowledge of self benefactor in whom thy trust begins. When garling said trust not even your shadow: the wish was that the sun wouldn’t shine and obscure the light, as what happened in darkness must come out in the light.
Some of these ladies dressed in high heals & have long finer nails have Pretty faces but bad character. Its a disgrace!!
You don’t hear these things taking place with a roots girl
This is why employees in the finance sector are required to take at least one 2 week vacation per year.
@Bluddy Bloke… Your spelling is a disgrace!
Where is her photograph? She’s a thief. Stealing or robbing with the pen/paper is no different than stealing or robbing with a gun & bullets it’s still a crime of theft. Embezzlement and fraud are just fancy terms to fit jacket/tie, mini skirt and high heel wearing crooks.
your “Pretty” is incorrect. You need to go back to primary school, whoever you are.

I wish someone could explain to me the following. I took a loan to open a business at this organization. I used my friend as a guarantor for this loan, later I went for another loan and I wanted to releive my friend from being the guarantor and put but loans together and my husband as the main guarantor, we went into the bank and signed the relevant documents. Forward to 3 years my friend went to request a loan for herself and the told her she didn’t qualify as she was the guarantor for another loan (mines). Mind u, I just said went to the bank to take her off my loans and documents were signed, and the only reason I found about this supposed loan was because she went to request one.
What bank is not going to call u in 3 years to pursue payments on this loans? Knowing how serious banks are about their money. The bank has yet to give a logical explanation about this.
Am just so confused
Crimes do not pay. You stole from your friends and from those who trusted you. Why? Before she is sentenced. A Psychological Evaluation should be done. For the Court would have a better understanding of why. Then sentenced her accordingly.Reminder to all.A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.
Twelve and a dozen are the same. Some members of government need to answer to the courts. They too, are doing the same to us through all their housing schemes, water-carting, building contracts; to include roads and water plants and even the duty-free process. I guess she has learnt from them but it’s too bad that she doesn’t have stooges to lobby for her.
Community First we watch your staff, I’m seeing discrepancies on my savinsg and loan payments. Karl careful with them.
@Rovi Go to the head of the class.
