The County of Northampton Department of Corrections has assured Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States, Sir Ronald Sanders, that Kendra Beazer will have access to medical staff while incarcerated.

Sanders has been in discussions with stateside authorities regarding the case of the Barbuda Council member who was arrested after apparently assaulting several police officers.

“While he is incarcerated he will have access to our medical staff who takes care of those incarcerated with medical and mental deficiencies,” Warden David Penchishen wrote to Sanders.

ANR has seen copies of correspondence from both sides.

Penchishen said Beazer will be in quarantine status for either 72 hours and or until he has a negative COVID result.

In his March 9 letter, Ambassador Sanders expressed “deep concern that Mr. Beazer is being confined in prison, when he needs medical attention.”

The ambassador also requested “that your facility kindly arrange for a medical assessment of Mr. Beazer with a view to transferring him to a facility where he would receive medical attention, pending his lawyer’s approach to the Court.”

But Penchishen said as far as release to a facility that may better fit his needs, this is controlled by the court system.

“The court would order and schedule any evaluations that may be requested by Mr. Beazer’s attorney,” Penchishen said.

Four cops were said to be escorting Beazer from a hotel to a mental health evaluation when the incident unfolded on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old Lehigh University graduate student, who is on a Fulbright scholarship, was reportedly acting erratically on Sunday night in a Pennsylvania hotel.

Court papers say he assaulted three police officers and a sergeant who were subsequently taking him for the voluntary mental health evaluation.

Beazer was arraigned early Monday before a district judge on charges of aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment.

  2. I hope that having emerged healthy and resilient from this experience, that the young man will consume a nice slice of humble pie. Making fun of the mentally ill was all fun and games for him until this unfortunate circumstance which he found himself in.

Hoping that everything will be alright for him in due time.

  3. You know Barbudans have displayed their lawlesness here over the years and because of our weak police force that doesnt feel they need to enforce the laws, theynahve time and time again gotten away with it. But doing that in another man’s country is stupid and you will found out about the laws and who is above it. He is lucky the police didn’t use deadly force as we have seen lately in manu instances when it comes to black men.
