Karim Edwards appeared before Justice Rajiv Persaud in the High Court on Friday morning and entered a not guilty plea to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

The charge stems from a fatal collision on October 23, 2022, along Friars Hill Road. Prosecutors allege that Edwards’ vehicle struck medical students Kenneth Mathew and Priyanjana Das as they were crossing the roadway.

Mathew sustained severe brain injuries and died just over a week after the crash. Das survived but suffered life-altering injuries, including the loss of her right arm, fractures to her left arm, and pelvic injuries.

The case is now set to proceed to trial.

  1. The victims family must file a civil lawsuit against him.
Why does it take three plus years for him to even enter a plea?
Didn’t he allegedly leave the scene of the accident, to return later with an attorney?
When will law enforcement begin to collect blood and urine samples of the driver(s) involved in serious accidents?

@ANR please do some investigative reporting, instead of the regurgitated news briefs; in this case, what other charges did the DPP bring against him?

By the way what has become of the Andrea Hughes case?

  2. This is sick in all levels. Not even catching you doing the wrong, this guys have the balls to express “He isn’t guilty”. Is like we need to prove he is guilty. Wow..We need to prove he was driving, we need to prove that was his car, we need to prove he escape after the crash and left on the road two humans. We need to prove one woman lose her arms and had lot of injuries, we need to prove one man died due the accident. Come on..do better. What would be his reaction, if was his daughter or his son involved in similar accident. He will accept a driver come in front of a Jury and say “I’m not guilty”

  3. Was this the chap that fled the scene at the time?

If he’d stayed and helped out, maybe a life or more serious injury could have been avoided. Sadly, the the relatives will never know.

A terrible tragedy that could’ve been avoided.

    SPEEDING KILLS…

  4. In Antigua, there is a saying.Friends in Courts are worth more than monies in your pockets. To whom is he related. He should have been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, among the other charges.Better late than never.I do hope justice is really blind as they say, especially in this case.
