Joseph saddened by death of 17-year-old sanitation worker

Stephen Perez was crushed to death

Environment Minister Molwyn Joseph today expressed “shock and sadness” at the tragic death of a young sanitation worker, Stephen Perez.

Perez was crushed to death by the garbage truck he was working on.

The incident occurred in the Potters area. The truck was owned and operated by an independent contractor providing service to the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

Minister Joseph expressed his “deepest condolences” to Perez’s family and to the management and staff of the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

“This was a tragic accident and one that regrettably ended the life of a young man,” he said.

The minister added “we share the grief of his family and that of his colleagues at National Solid Waste. We all mourn his untimely loss and though extremely saddened by the loss of Mr. Perez’s life, we take comfort in the fact that no further serious injuries occurred as a result of the accident.”
