Senator Michael Joseph has raised concerns over rising gun crime in St John’s Rural West, highlighting recent incidents including a second attack on Andre “Kenyatta” Mills, who was shot in the leg.
He pointed to a surge in gun-related violence in Gray’s Farm, citing a shooting on May 25th and the March murder on Christian Street, urging urgent action.
During a Senate session, Joseph called for community unity and greater law enforcement effort to address the trauma and prevent further violence, especially among youth.

Why didn’t you denounce your boss for the detestable statement he made some months ago? I suppose that most illegal guns have been involved in some kind of unlawful act and these are the same ones that he asked the criminals to do whatever they want with; whether to keep, destroy or pass on to whomever and now you are still complaining that gun crimes are escalating. So who do you think is responsible?
While guns and gun violence is a serious matter, in Antigua, since the culture even though aspects of it have known guns, own guns for decades (protect property and life); the guns are being used for different purposes (robbery, murder, intimidation, boarseness etc).
The policies (amended somewhat recently) which governs everything from sale, ownership (legal/illegal), licensing, sentencing etc MUST be addressed simultaneously MICHAEL JOSEPH or any other poliTRICKtan, charlatan, political aspirant and those already collecting perks, privileges, salaries, paid early retirement.
A…guns are not [illegal]; it’s the policies which governs them classify them as illegal. Murder by a hammer, a cutlass, ax or rat poison or a gun is still murder.
B…those policy makers mentioned prior should have being obssrvant, realize and recognize, that CULTURAL NORMS are based on habits, and the changing habits to OUR CULTURE (open air drug markets on the street corners, the proliferation of street thugs/gangs, the brothels, drug/rum bars) at least FORTY (40) years ago would evolve OUR CULTURE to this juncture which is of concern to MICHAEL JOSEPH.
C…gun amnesties are a waste of time. They don’t serve the intended purpose, of reducing guns in the community’s. PERIOD!
D…the wide open ports and inlets which allow for easy flow of guns into the Nation has to be the FRONT LINE in this battle. However, this will take HUMONGOUS FUNDINGS for building facilities to obtaining equipments to training personnel.
It’s a WAR and not even those Nations who write their own FUNDINGS has won THE WAR ON GUNS & DRUGS. The profits are irresistible, and they’re driven by DEMAND & SUPPLY.
Please don’t think, that I’m a #pessimist, very far from my reality of being in the trenches, of HOODS which are (were) 100 times worst than what is happening in HOODS like Rural West. Example 500 murders per year in an area the size of Antigua was my reality. I still reside in a city with 300 people plus murders per year.
I would hope, that many Antiguans are OPTIMISTIC when it comes to these gun crimes and how to curtail them. You had better be, otherwise, this new budding and growing culture leading with VIOLENCE will be worst than the COVID PANDEMIC and its lockdowns.
I know for a fact, without having visit RURAL WEST, very few of those living outside of the area will venture there just to be there. Your awareness is heightened.

All these guns are left over from the two bird brothers one a former prime minister who created the Bosnia in Clare hall, and also used Antigua sovereign license to purchase guns for Columbia and from Israel to Botha of apartheid south Africa then, some guys use to say while they unpack these container of guns that pass through Antigua they were offered a gun and cash to keep quiet, and the syrians has been doing this since the 60’s up to this day, one boast about the money has has to raise to pay custom officer to clear them, our hands are dirty with blood, and guns don’t rotten, so from there manufacturing date wether the 1940’s they are here still taking life, the syrians are untouchable because they hang on to the coat tail of the respected hadeed family, so the police tip toe around them.
Mr. Joseph, can criminal activity be reduced in the Gray’s Farm area when the Gray’s Farm police station closes to the public around 10.00pm & opens to the around 7.00 am. In addition, throughout the day, there is no sight of police either or foot, bicycle or vehicle patroling the area.
