Job Creation Thrives as Antigua and Barbuda’s Economy Expands

Antigua and Barbuda’s growing economy is driving job creation across multiple sectors, with employment opportunities widely available, according to Senator Shenella Govia.

Speaking during the Senate debate on the 2025 budget, Govia highlighted the abundance of jobs and pushed back against claims of unemployment.

“Every day, you look in the newspapers, Facebook, social media: jobs! The hotels are looking for workers,” she said. “Right now, people have two and three and four and five jobs.”

The senator described the demand for labour as a direct result of economic growth, pointing to sectors such as hospitality and skilled trades where workers are in high demand.

“We need plumbers, electricians, masons—these things only happen when an economy is growing,” Govia explained.

She encouraged jobseekers to take advantage of the opportunities, calling on political leaders to advise their constituents accordingly. “To those political hopefuls, tell your constituents to apply. We are a growing country,” she said.

Govia’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the government’s economic performance, with job creation standing as a key indicator of Antigua and Barbuda’s recovery and growth.

  1. Ok, so when our mothers and fathers are working 3 and 4 jobs who is home minding us the children?
Just asking for my younger sibling.

  2. Does that include you?
While some have none and just barely catching their ass to make ends meet, while you buy expensive handbags and shoes with your three and four jobs?
You think this is something good to say. You dumb b–ch!

  3. @Aryuh hear dey?

Listening to the young senator, it was clear she was referring to grassroots people, not the Gisele Isaacs of this world who had 4 high paying government jobs totaling over $20,000 per month.

Thanks to the strong economy, coming projects, easier access to tertiary education and increased small business funding, there will be more good paying jobs available for all year by year. No one will be left behind and no one can dispute that Antigua is on the move.

Sadly there is also no credible or competitive alternative Government.

  4. WHAT THE hell! …2: …3: …4: …5-JOBS! …BE CAREFUL SENATOR

A Parliamentarian shall ‘…BE CAREFUL,’ of what he/she shall say.
SOME ‘…UTTERANCE’ is really not ‘…PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE,’ but merely ‘…SENTIMENTALISM.’

Some comments, as well seem capable of being described as: ‘…SIDE TALK.’

    WHY

The ‘…BUDGET’ under parliamentary consideration, merely contains ‘…PROJECTIONS’ for the ‘…FINANCIAL YEAR-2025.’

The apparent ‘…SIDE TALK’ was clearly not based, neither on ‘…FACTUALITY,’ nor currently obtains.

    When a Parliamentarian:

    (i) ‘…Elected by people (House of Representatives): or

(ii) …Appointed by ruling administration for their:

    (a) ‘…Support:

    (b) …Organizational membership: and

    (c) …Incentivizing Loyalty,’ more than ‘…MERITORIOUSLY EARNED,’ they are
    expected to ‘…TOW LINE.’
    NOW:

There are only ‘…24-HOURS’ in a day.

    SPEAKING TO LOGIC:

Should a tour of duty be:

    (i) ‘…6-HOURS: then

(ii) …Two Tours must be ‘…12-HOURS:

(iii) …Three Tours must also be ‘…18-HOURS: and for the

(iv) …Fourth Tour, this must be ‘…24-HOURS.’

    QUESTIONS

    (i) …WHERE WOULD A WORKER THAT HAS ‘…4-JOBS’ find time to bathe and rest?

(ii) …WHAT QUALITY OF JOBS DO THEY HAVE? and

(iii) …HOW SUSTAINABLY PAYABLE ARE THOSE JOBS?

PLEASE, SENATOR, WITH RESPECT, WATCH YOUR DARN MOUTH.

  5. Why do you think people have three, four jobs?
Because things are tough, so we need to work to pay bills. Duh!
You really think we want to work, work till we drop dead senator?
You and your government is really clueless.

  6. I have zero job, what is this person talking about, I don’t know anyone that has 3 jobs much less for one!

  7. surely people having 5 jobs is a negative, not a positive. If these employers were forced to pay a living wage a worker would only need one job to have a reasonable standard of living.

  8. With the rate of inflation and cost of goods locally people do need multiple jobs but sadly you work all the hours and still can’t afford a home a vacation or private health care. The roads are bad same money we make this week we gotta spend it in parts and other basic necessities that shouldn’t be an issue in any develop country.

  9. Yes Antiguans…Complain that people having three jobs is a Negative, while you stay at home and complain. Typical Antiguan Rhetoric. Some complain that they have none while NOT advancing their portfolio to seek the employment they may require. Just that they would wish a JOB to automatically be afforded to them.

ONCE AGAIN, ANTIGUANS, STOP THE COMPLAINING AND GET OFF YOUR ARSE!!!

  10. I cannot believe that anyone would tout that people working 4 and 5 jobs as if it is noble and worthy and something that anyone really want to do. People do multiple jobs due to severe financial hardships and needing to cover basic living expenses when a single job doesn’t provide enough income due to the high cost of living. Essentially it is often a necessity in order to make ends meet.

  11. People 2,3,4 jobs out of necessity cost of living is too high so if you dnt have 3 jobs you stealing or selling a body part/s

Is bit possible for a people to abandon a country? Cuz antigua is not it not if you actually want to do something with your life

  12. ……. the ppl have a government for a reason this one is not making life for everyday man very easy now are they? 5 yrs stead increase of social security, no regulation following inflation, no social programs as relief are they still complaining or are they now desperate

  13. She means that SHE has two, three, four, five jobs! I noticed some joker on here trying to spin her nonsense but the truth is: ABLP is using the people’s money to buy support, votes and favours. Deny that!!!!

  14. @Complaining garot. Easy for you to say. Since you are no doubt one of those happily sucking at the people’s trough.

  15. #Teacher Percy, your POLYGRAPH SERVICES are needed. It’s time to administer a #Lie_Detector Test!

    …Teacher Percy say,
    …when you tell a lie
    …you’re going to hell,
    …as soon as you die!

Could such lifestyles be contributing to #Ghost_Workers, heart attacks, knuckles, horning and divorce?

UNO, DOS, TRES, CUATRO, where the hell is CINCO? It’s not even May as yet, and he’s as drunk as Tom.
Ms. Govia, CINCO and his buddy TOM, may be drunk; but, DEM NO FOOLIE!

U can spout hot air as u did bingo for giving up the constituency to get that senatorial position
So u have to tow the line till u qualify for pension

  17. Antiguas and Barbudans I urge you to get into politics, that’s where the money is , two terms and you are set for life, you could put your friends and family on 4 to 5 different boards “I wonder if that’s the jobs the senator talkng” more business to commence we want not have to struggle working 3-5 jobs. We work to make a living not live to work.

  18. She is obviously referring to the likes of CHAOS DEMON 😈 MAN COW, LIPSTICK HOG type of people.

  19. 4 paychecks and counting

How many Board appointments Dot See got with the RAG-TAG HYPOCRITE watching and laughing at Antigua ppl

  20. Dear Jesus. Bless my thoughts. This jackass. Think it’s. A good thing to have 3-4-5 jobs. People dying or diabetes cuz they can’t find time to cook a proper meal. And living on soda and fast foods.

People can’t pay bills on one job.

When u out there working 3-5 jobs. What time do we get for the kids.

    Jesus bless this jackass.

  21. I had to get two jobs, now I’m sleep deprived and bearly getting by to be able to survive in your “thriving” economy, only the rich can say this nonsense.

  22. @Pompey, a lady in Antigua and Barbuda contacted me asking me for $2000 because pay is after Christmas. She told me he has 3 jobs. When I went to Antigua, most folks I met said they had 2 or 3. I may met one or two said 5 but I assumed that number was used for the sake of effect. I may have assumed wrong.

  23. @my way of helping. If that lady has 3 jobs and still has to borrow from you, what does that tell you? It simply means that her 3 jobs can’t even come up to one good job! That is the problem unless you are one of the greedy horses eating from ABLP trough .

  24. Really??? Listening as a Jamaican to all these comments about having 2,3 jobs is a travesty on the govenment. Antiguan whine about the worst thing. This island has one a the highest per capita offerings in the eastern caribbean and yet…they complain.

Try living in JA or Dominica and the DR Why do you antuguans think those nationality come here to find work. BECAUSE THEY CAN GET THE JOBS THAT YOU WHINE ABOUT. SIMPLE!
I have seen on the work force, locals do the least amount of work, have their little man liquor as well as their spliff….while being on the JOB.

So please locals,,, continue to whine about…the common man is NOT feeling it..while remittances are being funnel into Dominica, Jamaica, Dominican republic…and the likes…from the common folks who have the 3 and 4 jobs you lot a whinin’ about having
