Joanne C. Hillhouse wins Anthony N Sabga Award for contribution to Arts

Our announcement of 2023 laureates was made March 1 in Port of Spain.

They are: Antigua & Barbuda novelist Joanne C. Hillhouse (Arts & Letters)

Trinidad and Tobago women’s health doctor, Dr. Adesh Sirjusingh (Public & Civic Contributions)

Guyana agri-scientist Dr. Mahendra Persaud (Science & Technology).

These three, esteemed Caribbean citizens, will formally join our College of 57 Laureates at a ceremony in Port of Spain in June.

  1. KUDOS & IMMENSE RESPECT TO JOANNE HILLHOUSE, LAUREATE ARTS & LETTERS.

    This is a tremendous recognition for her decades of creative writing and encouragement of others, especially young people, to pick up their pens and let writing be their voice. Wadadli Pen festival, reading at Best of Books, speaking about stories we have as a community and stories we have within us that need to be told.

    This recognition is cause for much celebration, and I hope the GG will be noting the pride A&B should have in this talented, generous creative writer and consider a national award as would be fitting.

    LAUREATE: a person who is honoured with an award for outstanding creative or intellectual achievement.
