The Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC), based in St. Lucia, has initiated the interview phase for potential Chief Magistrate candidates in Antigua and Barbuda after the suspension of Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh.

Following an investigation into formal complaints and subsequent levying of disciplinary charges, an acting Chief Magistrate has taken over.

Cabinet Spokesperson Lionel Max Hurst confirmed the JLSC’s role in evaluating and shortlisting candidates, mentioning ongoing interviews.

Legal Affairs Minister Steadroy Benjamin is expected to propose an interim Chief Magistrate.

The Attorney General will recommend a suitable candidate to ensure uninterrupted magistrate court operations in Antigua and Barbuda.

  2. What charges are laid against he? Is it illegal to disclose what charges was made against her? She is Antiguan right? We are aware that one is innocent until proven guilty. Not even for a case like this you can prioritize. I had a case that took over a decade to go through the process. Then two more years to get results from the appeal court.

  3. Well this is the standard that this editors attract on this forum for discussion. I will ignore them because there is a bigger picture. Not to let fake news win the battle

  4. And after a new Magistrate has been chosen , you will again have those here making the allegations that the politicians are the ones that chooses the magistrate and that they work for them. And many will fall for that.
