Jared Robinson, previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison for injuring an adult and two minors in an April 2020 incident.

Initially facing severe charges, Robinson’s case shifted when psychiatrist Griffin Benjamin diagnosed him with schizophrenia and a substance abuse disorder on March 31, 2022.

Concerns about his capacity to face the charges arose, leading to a prescribed medication course and subsequent evaluation.

After treatment, Robinson pleaded guilty to three counts of wounding and one of malicious damage.

Justice Tunde Bakre handed down a concurrent 6 years and 8 months sentence for each wounding charge and 6 months for malicious damage on Friday.

Why then is the youngster sent to the prison to be among hard core criminals for the offence he committed?

Would jail be the best place to rehabilitate a mentally ill person? It will nice to get the views of the psychiatrist
