The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at the cabinet conference room, where Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne and Japan’s ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Utaka Matsubara, sealed the deal.
Under this grant program, the government of Japan will facilitate the installation of another reverse osmosis plant at the Ffryes Beach Facility, adding approximately 330,000 gallons per day to the potable water production capacity.
This new plant complements an existing one that was installed in February 2022, highlighting Japan’s continued support for sustainable development in Antigua and Barbuda.
Japanese Ambassador Utaka Matsubara emphasized the significance of this additional grant, citing its importance in addressing water scarcity challenges faced by Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne also highlighted the positive impact of the new plant, stating that it will increase the Ffryes facility’s capacity to produce 1.2 million gallons of water per day.
The Minister responsible for water recently approved another reverse osmosis plant for Ffryes, which is set to produce one million gallons of water daily.
This combined effort will significantly boost the country’s water production capacity to 2.2 million gallons per day within the next 12 months, up from 600,000 gallons per day just a few years ago.
Prime Minister Browne envisions a future where water flows abundantly, aiming for a total production capacity of 12 million gallons per day by the end of this year and 15 million gallons per day by the following year.

One very important question though:
Which bank is Gaston Browne going to place the funds for the potable water? 😉

We all know that this isn’t some freebie Gatson is getting here. What’s the cost to Antiguan’s Gatson? Please remember to put that little nugget in your articles.
Everything this man signs, must be looked into, must.
All these back door deals this man signs on a regular.
I guess thats what “borrowing Antigua out of poverty” look like.
How many more plants you going to erect ?
Why put the cart infront of the horse?
We have a distribution problem (old rotten pipes)not production issue!
Have you fixed the massive leak in town your chief of staff waxed poetically upon?
How about you commission the storage tanks left by the previous administration for added storage and distribution ?
Not everybody have wool over their eyes!
#Tiad a fed up wid it!
there is another plan with japans help and that is to use the ” grey water” and recycle it back into clean water. soon we gona have so much water we won’t know what to do with it.
So one was approved already for Ffryes.
Will this grant from Japan finance that approved one, or will it be another one, thus making Ffryes the reverse osmosis capital of Antigua?
