SOURCE: DAILY OBSERVER- A construction worker has been found guilty of charges under the Sexual Offences Act.
Damian Williams, 42, was convicted by a jury yesterday on two counts of indecent assault.
Williams was accused of inappropriately touching a minor in March 2022 when he was 39 and the girl was only 10 years old.
During the trial, evidence was given that Williams, a Jamaican citizen, was residing in the same household as the victim, her mother and two younger siblings, as a tenant.
The mother, who is also a Jamaican, decided to take Williams in because she was struggling to pay rent and other bills after the birth of her last child, asking that he pay $450 per month for a room.
The woman reportedly trusted the man because of his connection with her child’s father and other mutual friends.
Williams is alleged to have touched the child on her buttocks or thigh area and kissed her near her lip.
In her testimony, the victim, who is now a teenager, told the court that on March 29, 2022, during the evening hours while sitting in the living room on her younger brother’s bed, Williams came in and sat on her bed.
After staring at her he later asked her to wake him up at 5:30am the following day while brushing against her hand.
The child declined, stating that her mother usually wakes her up for school, after which Williams asked her for a kiss.
Reports are that the child ran to her mother’s room in tears and told her what transpired after which the mother became enraged and confronted the man with a machete, resulting in him quickly packing his belongings and leaving the home.
The police were later notified and following investigations Williams was arrested and charged.
Williams had denied touching the child but later told police he had touched her foot. However, he told the court he had only touched her shoulder.
He will be sentenced on March 28.
During the trial, Williams represented himself while the matter was prosecuted by Curtis Cornelius.

I hope he get harsh punishment smh totally wickedness an what you all plan to do about the amount of persons that are going missing pass few weeks what’s going on in Antigua
why do we need to know that he JAMAICAN???? his nationality predisposes him to crime?
This is a shocking and heartbreaking case. Justice must be served for the victim.
No one should ever be subjected to such acts. It’s important that victims feel empowered to speak out.
Hoping the guilty party faces the full extent of the law. This is an awful situation.
A much-needed reminder of the importance of protecting our children and keeping predators away.
It dnt matter where he’s from because where he’s from doesn’t justify his actions jus like the pastor who molested the minor wether u Antiguan or jamaican once you do a crime you get punish so doesn’t mean single out who from what country they all pay the penalty
I’m glad the mother responded in kind and the child felt safe to tell her mom. Need more of that!
Horrifying. Cases like these show just how crucial it is to raise awareness and strengthen child protection laws.
There’s no excuse for this kind of behavior. I hope the victim finds peace and healing. Prayers🙏🙏🙏
I am very pleased that apparently, this child’s mother and her other supposedly educators (aunts, mommy’s friends, father, family friends, teachers) around her, taught her about herself, and the evils around. and that she in thinking or with wisdom ran for help from mommy and to reveal said evil.
Kudos to mommy and child.
But, according to the Sexual Offences Act, plus its subsequent punishment(s) of the charge found guilty of, and if the perp was already in jail awaiting trial for the past 3 years, and adding the Judge’s wisdom, he the convict might not be in jail for long due to “time already served while awaiting the trial”.
If he was not in jail awaiting the trial, then he will now have to serve the punishment’s allotted time according to the Judge’s wisdom.
