Isaac asks for confirmation of date that public-sector raises go into effect and for the exact percentage

Source- Real News Antigua: Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP) D.Gisele Isaac is asking exactly when public-sector workers will be getting their promised 9 percent increase, since no official word has been given, so far, by the Government.

The Gaston Browne Administration has justified hiking the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) from 15 to 17 percent by saying it will fund the increase in salaries and wages.

And while that tax increase –among others – came into effect on January 1, 2024 – the Government is yet to confirm that the pay raise will be implemented at the end of January, as expected .

Further, Isaac notes that none of the workers’ bargaining agents – including the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association – has said whether they will be getting the 9-percent increase in one go … or split over a period.

She says she would like to hear from the unions regarding this issue– and not only from the Cabinet, who has declared only that a wonderful Christmas had been enjoyed by all residents on account of the “free” meats it had distributed.

  1. Dame, we can only wait and see what transpires at the end of January. Those civil servants who are paid weekly should already see the increase by now. Let’s see if they weigh in here with live reports.
This DAWG is an infamous liar so anything he says will leave doubts.
2022 leading up to the election he was promising back pay and raises, but it all fizzled to nothing except for the extra paycheck in December of 2022.
I trust NOTHING this man says.

  2. Wait she living under a rock. She never read how many times stories were carried in this same forum stating when the increase will happen, how much and so on. People don’t read they just “lub tark”

    • @ Me that

So because it has been said and advertised mean that it will happen? You are very dumb.

How many things have they said would happen and they never do, e.g. ”less taxes”, ”more investments”, ”more jobs”, have any of these things happen you minion?
Saying and doing are mutually exclusive. Just like PM preaching unity for 2024 but having taken over 40 persons to London, except the opposition leader, what expressions of love and togetherness.
      He must thing people stupid.

    • @ Bolan Vere, why don’t you post a picture of yourself? So we can have a good laugh for ourselves!

The “dye head” males in the ABLP cabinet are the ugliest bunch you could EVER come across – any comments about them, you misogynist fool?

I bet you’re no oil painting. Rumour has it you look like a Steadroy Benjamin lookalike … ah true? 😁

      • @Brixtonian…. And rumour say that you mudda is your father and your father is you mudda….. In other words, rumour say your parents and you is fish! ah true?

        • That saying @ Bolans, I can bet your bottom dollar that you don’t like Antiguan women, after your disgraceful and disgusting remarks about Ms D.Gisele Isaacs. Nasty!

Never forget, because parrot 🦜 mek noise, people say a him one name banana 🍌

    • @ Bolans Vere

The same man cow that you and Gaston and Michael Brown hate. You cannot stand a woman with power, intellect and good looks. Not forgetting the EC$3,500,000.00 she caused you guys to fork out to settle the frivolous unfair dismissal law suit.
Y’all hatred for her is palpable.

  3. Yes remind the Prime Minister of his 9% promise your Honourable D. Gisele Isaacs.

All Antiguans have heard are promises after promises, and the only time he he seems to find money to pay workers is around election time.

I like how the opposition are holding the ABLP to account, and Gaston and his merry men don’t like it one bit.

Keep up your good work UPP, many of us are relying on you for today, tomorrow and the not too distant future.

  4. Being a weekly worker I have not received no 9% I heard of from since the first and by right he do post to give a back pay before rising salary. I don’t know what the hell is really going on in Antigua look pan st. Kits that a one the low paying country a give pay raise . I know Gaston can do better to Antigua jack . This enrich ur self creatively he told his cabinet he need to let the ppl do that as well . This back and forth about ablp this and that last I check the rain falls on all are we roof top not just upp

  5. One can understand a time lag from when tax receivables are actually collected to when those proceeds become distributable. However, your government should be able to predict the availability of funds and issue a public statement of when the distribution can be expected.
I think it’s good that your government is doing such a poor job. Because, maybe at the next election, people will be so fed up, they will vote out the current administration. However, there will be many of those voted out of government who will be laughing all the way to the bank. Can you hear the sucking sound?
