Today we’d like to introduce you to Anique Aguilar whose parents are Claudine Murphy and John Pelle of Antigua and Barbuda

Hi Anique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

I am a native New Yorker living in Northeast Georgia. I have been living in Dacula for almost two years. Earlier on, while in college I majored in Architecture, Humanities and Social Science. My love for Architecture and Interior Design came about when I was a child spending time with my uncle in Antigua & Barbuda W.I. He was a construction worker and he would take me to work with him. As a child, I was also allowed the freedom to rearrange and reorganize my room as much as I wanted.

After college, I started working as a Technical Recruiter in 2010 and working on side Interior Design projects. After 8 years of working on side projects, I decided to formally form Pel-Mur Interiors, LLC in 2018. The name is derived from my grandparents’ last names on each side of my family (Pelle and Murphy). Though I created Pel-Mur Interiors, LLC., I continued to work in Talent Acquisition and Human Resources for 13 years. Until November 9, 2022, I was a part of the tech giant META layoffs. The door has opened for me to fully focus on my purpose and passion as an Interior Designer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road here in Georgia as this is new territory for me coming from New York. It is also scary working for yourself and learning how to run a business. However, I believe I will be successful in this new journey. It has also stretched me in my creative skills which has been a joy to work through.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pel-Mur Interiors, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pel-Mur Interiors, LLC mission is to always create dreams and aspirations into reality. I have partnered with other designers for major commercial and residential spaces. I have been featured on Splash Works and HPXD Instagram pages in 2022. When it comes to giving a space life, you have to know the emotions you are trying to evoke from your audience. Once you are sure of that, it takes the blank canvas and creates a vision.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to bet on myself and take a chance.

Some times we are afraid of the dark…the unknown but that leap of faith.. trusting our instinct and our training are all we need to venture out….
