Independent Senator to Be Sworn In Today at Government House

The swearing-in ceremony for Antigua and Barbuda’s Independent Senator is scheduled to take place today at Government House.

According to the official programme released by Government House, the ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at Government House on Independence Drive in St. John’s, with guests expected to be seated by 1:45 p.m.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams are expected to preside over the proceedings, which will include the administration of the Oath of Allegiance, Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy.

The programme also includes an invocation by Ms Makesha Greene-Cole, a spoken word presentation and official remarks by the Governor General.

Sen. Hon. Jamilla Kirwan is listed to deliver the response following the administration of the oaths.

Master of Ceremonies duties will be carried out by Maurice Merchant, OBE, CN.

The event comes as the Senate continues to take shape following the 2026 general election, which returned the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party to office for a fourth consecutive term.
