Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that Independent MP Anthony Smith will contest the next general election under the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).
Speaking on his weekly radio programme, Browne said Smith would “make the transition at the right time.” Smith, a former United Progressive Party (UPP) MP, left the opposition party due to leadership disagreements.
Browne described Smith as “a young, bright talent” and part of the ABLP’s effort to bring in fresh candidates. Other recent additions include Dwayne George, Michael Joseph, and Randy Baltimore. More announcements are expected as the party finalizes its candidate selection.
The move is seen as part of the ABLP’s strategy to attract younger voters ahead of the next election.

This is not anything new. Pm said so since he abandoned the UPP ship. The ABLP stopped the process and appointed Lamin Newton to All Saints East and gave Ridges a big Job. PM also said openly that Shugy and Richard Lewis wanted a deal like Anthony Smith- to be the ABLP candidate for their respective constituencies that they are now the UPP MPs for. He said openly that only Anthony Smith he is giving that deal. Since Anthony joined him when the balance was uncertain.
If you UPP can get its act together he will be punished for he betrayal of the people vote without consulting. Unless All Saints West votes are prostitutes as well. This is one of the seats I will not try on call. He has the government purse. He did not beat Michael Brown- we won by default.
