The police are promising boosted patrols in and around St John’s for this Christmas season to prevent criminal activity and for the safety of businesses and shoppers.

Head of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Commissioner Wendel Robinson says that 80 per cent of officers assigned to desk jobs will be placed in the field.

The top cop even promised that his secretaries will hit the streets as well.

“Everybody who are police officers, 80 per cent, I am leaving a skeletal staff within the office,” Robinson said.

As in the past during major events, the police will seek the assistance of members from the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force (ABDF) to help with patrols.

Robinson said, very shortly, he will have dialogue with the chief of defense staff at the Defense Force to see what assistance the organisation can offer to work together with the police this season.

“They (the ABDF) have always been an agency that has been very supportive of the police over the years, and that will continue,” Robinson assured.

He said also that he is hoping to recruit 60 new officers between December and March, when training will commence, to work along with experienced officers to get hands on training of police work.

  1. Mr. Commissioner while I can appreciate your (Christmas Season Patrol) plans I must ask you a few questions:
    – Where have you been all year?
    – Why haven’t we heard anything from you concerning the recent succession of crimes?
    – Do you honestly believe that this nation finds comfort in anything that you have to say at this time?

  2. Skeletal staff??
