Increase in COVID-19 cases in the region likely to delay LIAT’s comeback

LIAT’s much talked about come back is likely to be delayed countries in the sub-region see an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The CARICOM “travel bubble” has burst.

This was the declaration of Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne who on Saturday discussed the region’s struggle with the surge of new COVID-19 infections.

“The situation with the spread of COVID is not limited to Europe and North America. Right here in the Caribbean we are seeing more countries having community spread. The most recent would have been Saint Lucia [which] within the last week, I’m told, would have had over 34 new cases of COVID. So it’s evident that Saint Lucia now has community spread.”

The prime minister explained that the reality of community spread of COVID-19 in countries across the region “has forced a change in the travel arrangements within CARICOM. So whereas a few weeks ago we had agreed on a CARICOM travel bubble, in effect the bubble has burst.”

Last Friday, Grenada opted out of the travel bubble, citing the inability of participating countries to agree on common protocols.

The Spice Isle will now require anyone coming into the country to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test and quarantine for seven days.

Montserrat had already announced at the end of September that it would not participate in the CARICOM travel bubble over safety concerns.

Premier Joseph Farrell explained that his government was concerned that Montserrat could be exposed to the disease by persons entering the country from high risk countries.

  1. My friends, this is the sad world in which we live. We made it this way and it will only get worse before the Creator stands up and decides that mankind has done enough evil to itself and will not change.

These are really Judgement time ! Even the foolish man could tell you that what we are going through in this world today is not normal time. The labor pains are getting more frequent and more extreme…..a sign that we are really close to the end.
Wake up, my people ! Look at the world around you…EARTHQUAKES ….WARS…. PANDEMICS, POWER STRUGGLE IN the once democratic USA….now turning into a dictatorship…. regardless of which partY wins.
Yes….the USA is at the point of no return. A DICTATORSHIP HAS BLOSSOMED IN THE WEST.
THOSE WHO REFUSE TO FACE THE TRUTH….NOT FACTS…. PURE NAKED TRUTH…..ARE BLIND.
SERIOUS ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES ARE BEFORE US. SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, CLIMATICS, POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS TURMOIL DICTATE THAT WE ARE HEADING DOWN THE DANGEROUS PATH.
EVEN IF YOU DIG A HOLE AND HIDE YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND….. YOU CANNOT ESCAPE IT.

THANK GOD THAT HE WILL SOON STEP IN AND STOP THE MADNESS ! MANKIND HAS PROVEN THAT WE DO NOT HAVE THE SOLUTIONS.

WORLD “CRYSIS”: THE END SOON COME !

    WAKE UP ANTIGUANS AND BARBUDANS

  2. Listen I’m just saying a thought lost world crisis yes but whenever someone dies
that’s the end of the world for them some people like they were sleeping thru the pandemic and just wishing LIAT would come back but very few wishes come true if Browne wasn’t so bigheaded LIAT would have had a proper chance of returning but not in Antigua and Barbuda and being run by browne the only way for LIAT to establish it self again is by being privatise and without any government involvement.

  3. LIAT in financial trouble, they can’t pay their staff what’s owed to them, the can’t reimburse ticket holders but the misleaders at be find it acceptable for LIAT to bun jet fuel and not get a cent back for all the pappy show.

    Our country really screwed.
