In Solidarity with Our Teachers: A Call for Support
As a sister to two teachers and friend to communities of teachers, I have witnessed firsthand their plight and struggles.
Despite the numerous challenges they face day in and day out, these dedicated individuals show up for our children with unwavering commitment—to nurture, guide, uplift, and teach.
It is disheartening to see how often we choose to tear them down instead of recognizing and celebrating their hard work and dedication.
It is losthsome and despicable that the Gaston Brown lead Antigua and Barbuda Labor Party administration, along with Minister of Education Daryl Matthew which promised teachers their retroactive pay before the last general election, is now trying to renege on that promise or has failed to fulfill it.
Teachers support our children in school every day, sometimes providing lunches, school supplies, and tools for educational learning. Their contributions extend beyond the classroom; they are mentors and role models who are deeply invested in the education and well-being of our children.
Today, I, Jermaine N. Edwards, a community advocate for St. John’s Rural South stands in solidarity with the teachers of Antigua and Barbuda, including our primary school teachers, secondary school teachers, and the devoted tertiary educators. It is crucial for us to come together as a community to support and uplift these educators rather than criticize them in their times of need.
On behalf of the teachers and alongside the teachers’ union, I urge the administration of the day to honor their commitments. We support our teachers and demand that they receive the retroactive pay they have earned.
They have been dedicated and diligent in their mission to provide quality education to our children, and it is time for the administration to acknowledge their hard work and fulfill its promises.
Let us stand with the teachers of Antigua and Barbuda, recognizing their tireless efforts and the critical role they play in raising the next generation. Together, we can create an environment that celebrates our educators and empowers them to continue their vital work.
In solidarity,
Jermaine Edwards

@ Jermain Edwards. Excellent article. 👏🏼🙌 Teachers and educators at large. The most dedicated professionals in our society. They deserve more recognition and of course, their due retroactive pays. !These individuals; many of them parents even of newborns, who leave their kids behind to go teach our kids on a daily basis!☮️💟
When I heard the gentleman (I believe he is the President of the Teacher’s Union) on Jackie Quinn show this morning (Thursday 5th September 2024) I had to laugh at the A.L.P. APOLOGIST I heard on another radio station last night (a retiree or close to being a retiree working in the aviation sector).
This retiree or close to retiree should be ashamed of himself.
Instead of telling his government to pay the teachers, can you imagine he tried to spin it to say that ‘persons were not doing their administrative jobs’, hence the problem.
The President CLEARLY STATED that finance would not or could not pay and the reconciliation was done so a reasonable person can only conclude that the teachers have not been prioritized for payment thus far.
Stand firm teachers.
I listened and the Presdient himself sound like he is a DISGRACE TO THE TEACHING PROFESSION. Horrible speech and SUBJECT-VERB-AGREEMENT. a plethora of GRAMMATICAL ERRORS…. terribly embarassing for the profession and that he is their President is shocking!!! Pay them their monies owed yes, but will that help improve his glaring flaws as an “educator”?? It is said that Mr. Pringle used to teach…..used to boggle my mind how a “teacher”could appear so illiterate and grasp at straws to read and speak. But aftr hearing that “President” it makes sense!
trying to call attention to yourself eh? well GLADYS POTTER IS STILL THE CARETAKER FOR that constituency. she let it be known that she aint moving!! but nice try tho
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Very well said help the teacher to help our children for a better future.
@ when will Pringle stop being a……
Why don’t you publish your name you piece of CHIT, you have Gaston to back you up so you have nothing to worry about. Defend yourself and your stupid chatter if you can stand by them, you the CALF and your MOOMA the COW dung that brought you. You sound so dam INSIPID now.
first grader,
Even you in first grade are ahead of Mr. Pringle with reading and fluency in speech. He talks at KINDERGARTEN level…..cat, rat, mat, sat, fat…………Dan is the man in the van with the pan.
perhaps the write can help him out!
It’s amazing that some have us adopted pseudonyms and are calling out others who have adopted pseudonyms. This beyond ridiculous. It is sublime and ironic.
@First Grader…why don’t you publish yours. How is your blood pressure? Was there an initial spike? Careful it doesn’t get out of control.
@ Just saying
I cannot publish my name because we have the MOST VINDICTIVE PERSON IN THE WORLD as PM in this country. He is nothing BUT A DAM DICTATOR, and DO NOT WORRY ABOUT MY BLOOD PRESSURE IT IS FINE- more worry about yours and your other minions because you red ants have life harder than all other Antiguans in this country. You cannot even eat properly because of the high cost of living. All you can eat is sugary and salty products which will make you sick, so do not worry about me, worry about your High Blood Pressure and Sugar.
@ Sharon Lycorish
If we were living in a country of free speech we would not have to hide our identity, but we live in one of the most oppressive environment known to man. This man call GB who is PM is nothing but a bully and DICTATOR. If you do not SUPPORT HIM and ABLP you will go hungry and unemployed in this land, so do not patronise me. For all I know u might be the biggest user of pseudonyms.
pseudonyms 2
you lucky u not living under the GREEDY, KICKBACKS prime minister or u woulda done get chopped like meat. Remember he said to “SHARPEN U CUTLISS BACK AND BELLY. CHAP DEM UP!!!!” then you would be fed to a dog, said dog would die from ingesting your remains, then the man with the dead dog contract would benefit. Hope u see the truly oppressive environment in the sunshine!
@ pseudonyms 18/6 aka just saying, GB, etc
Thank God that I am living under PM who ”tump” people in dem mouth and encourage GANG MEMBERS to target opposition members. This man is so desperate to hold on to power so much that he is lying on the opposition members to stir up strife against the gangs. I have never heard so much ‘rashish’-ness in my life. A PM encouraging violence in a country he governs. I hope he will live forever.
All the opposition members should sue his ass. Only problem is he has access to all our tax dollars to defend himself and no one would find out the source of funding, and thats why he cannot afford to lose power.
Why you become irate at other people’s post that is contrary to your thinking. It is evident from your writing style that it is having some psychological bearing on you. It may not be sustained but atleast for that fleeting moment there is a spike in your body organs. I suspect your heart atleast must be impacted.
